A GTX 780 also costs $650 alone. Do you really think many gamers can afford that?

Probably not quite as many who bought a gtx680 when they first came out then after a year bought a 2nd gtx680 for $250 and enjoy better graphics than a 780. Players can have top end graphics for two years+ and overall less money than buying the top card every time they're released.

Nvidia hates me.:D

is there any difference in gaming performance between these two configs?

"i7 + 780M 4GB" vs. "i5 + 780M 4GB"

No doubt there are benefits in video editing but I'm just curious if the faster processor also benefits GPU performance in gaming or is it irrelevant?

in gaming...nope..maybe a little if you track the loading time or fps

The fact remains that the proportion of gamers with top-end or equivalent graphic cards are well below 5%.BTW, the gtx 680 currently costs over $400 at newegg. Or are you talking about a used one?

I read BF4 might be optimized for more than 4 cores. I sure don't need i7 for anything else, so hopefully I can get by with the i5.

for battlefield 4 if you go with 775M you can play 1440+medium +50fps and if you go with 780M you go 1440p+high settings at over 50fps

If BF4 gets 50+ in High with 780m I'll be happy. Overclocked should be 60+. :D

What I'd like to know is, how much different could the experience be compared to a GTX 780 maxed desktop? So what, you can't get 120 FPS (60hz screen anyways) and you can't run on Ultra. Things should look fine on High.

The way I see it is, the minimum config I need for work (21.5) is only $500 short of the 27" w/780m. A dedicated gaming PC w/monitor would cost more than $500. Plus the resale value & extra clutter/space requirements.

Or it saves me buying a bedroom TV/PS4 (about $900 + the monthly PSN Plus fee).

I would say its great for gaming. But i dont have iMac just yet.
I play on my Mac mini. Games like Team fortress 2, Starcraft 2, Borderlands 2. Low res offcourse.
All in osx. Never windows since i dont have it.
Ive ordered an imac now and will get bootcamp for it.
I am really looking forward to a 27" great looking screen with great colors. Quite computer and great gaming experience.

People tend to only look at fps.. But for me its much more.. I want to switch out of the game and do some imessage and then go back to the game.
In windows that may go fast but sometimes it may takes ages to switch in and out to a game.. On the mini i never had any lag o delay doing it.

Now i really hope Gta V will come to mac. Or i have to get boatcamp.

Just out of curiosity sake, what is the maximum size of video card you can get on PC has it reached 6GB yet. I have not been following PC's for a long time, I know that they benefit in terms of using dual non mobile video cards in comparison to just the one mobile found on the iMac.

Back to the thread if you are using just the Mac OSX platform the 4GB card will be a mac gamers delight, otherwise if you are using windows look away I guess I would prefer Alienware for gaming on a PC, but i cannot live without Mac OSX now so I am stuck with mac.

here with the 680MX at native resolution+high settings(keep in mind is still beta) and with 780M and proper drivers will get at least 10 more fps.. So playing BETA BF4 on native+high settings and get 45 fps (680MX) i think is more than great, so with the release of the game and 780M you will play this one with over 50fps

I have a 680MX 2GB in my 2012 27 inch from late last year and get a low FPS on BF4's beta even with everything on LOW and it playing at 720!!!! :O

What am I doing wrong :S I have the latest drivers downloaded using the nvidia app they give you to make sure youre uptodate :S

Do you think many gamers can afford an imac?

Yup adult players often can.. And many adults play Battlefield.

So, im an adult and i got a mac.. So i better get Battlefield then ;-)
And Battlefield better come to osx soon!

My comment was in relation to the previous poster who said "Do you think many gamers can afford a gtx 780?" Obviously if you can afford a $2000 imac then you can afford a $650 gtx 780.

Why is that question even relevant? The discussion is about how good iMac GPUs are in comparison to the currently existing gaming GPUs. It should be clear that iMac is not the best bang for buck if gaming is the only thing you are interested in ;)

It's great for gaming if you need a computer for more than just gaming. The 780m should last quite a while, just don't expect to play future games on ultra or high.

NO. The software developers don't support it. Tiger Woods isn't even out for the Mac anymore. I play golf sims and FPS. I want my Marathon back.

21" vs 27" iMac for gaming?

When it comes time to trade in my MBP (see signature), as I don't travel as much as I used to, and I'm miffed that with the new MBP you have to go with the top of the line $2600 model to get dedicated graphics, I'd like to ask how much gaming difference is there between the 21" iMac with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 1GB ($1500) and the 27" with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M with 2GB ($2000)? I'd like to save $500... :)

This iMac would used for my Mac compute tasks and as a secondary gaming machine mostly in Windows 7 via bootcamp. Back in Oct 2013 I built a gaming PC where I usually game, but when I have a friend over, and they don't have their own hardware, this iMac would fill the roll. My main expectation for a 21" model would be that I could run a game like World of Tanks at least as well as my current MBP, which does a good job with a 2.2Ghz Intel Core i7 and has an AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics with 1GB memory.

Thoughts? Thanks! Any benchmarks posted online? :D

Play bf4 on my late 27 top spec Imac.Runs smooth on high det but fans goes to nearly max speed.Just wonder if this's normal.

the just released geforce GTX 880M provides a whopping 8 GB of video ram - probably due to the rising popularity of dual screen setups and 4k resolution. the next imac iteration will most certainly feature this GPU as a high-end option.

i would expect the desktop version (not announced yet) to have 8 GB as well.

Hey guys,

So I'm kinda new here, and I know there's probably bunch a topic like this, but I want to hear a good answers from you guys cause I have been wanting to buy an iMac 27" 2.9 GHz.

I know I can build a well, cheaper gaming pc but I just want to know about the iMac cause I wanna play mostly high graphics games such as Battlefield 4. I mostly watch movies and play games.

Thanks,
-DevonGaming01

Yes, yes it is. Enjoy. :)

they might run some games with the help of windows but they aren't made for gaming... just get a PS4 and an iMac best of both worlds.

best exclusive games on the PS4 with high enough visuals
iMac no windows 8 and amazing built quality
