Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE i know who got sucked in by a cheaper android tablet, every single one of them sold them on and bought an iPad. They couldn't get over how amazing it was.

First of all decide if you want a tablet or not. If you don't want or need one, skip it. If you decide to buy one make sure it's an iPad or nothing. Android doesn't come close.

I didn't need my "new" iPad. I didn't want one since i have a macbook, macbook pro and an jb iPhone 4s.
It didn't dawn on me til i bought a kindle fire for my gf for valentine's day and i wanted it myself.
It was funny how i used to think how dumb a tablet was when we all have laptops and iPhones. But it came to me how convenient it was to have one.
So went on get me an iPad. Best decision ever....i love this iPad and So should everyone else, and nothing less.
But i still need to use my laptops for the intensive work.

Well you obviously did not count me in. I own a Kindle Fire and the latest iPad. I still own and love the Fire. I love Amazon and their ecosystem so the Fire compliments their services very well.

I don't know why people defend the iPad over the Fire? I'm seriously baffled by it. Even Amazon's CEO did not want his device compared to the iPad because THERE IS NO comparison between the Tablets. The iPad wins by a wide margin.

I'm an Amazon Prime member and the Fire is awesome delivering the content I want.

I received both a iPad 3 and a Kindle Fire on March 16th. I setup the Kindle Fire first since it was not mine. For the 30 minutes or so I used it I found
- Touch screen is super sensitive. You can hover over the screen and it will register a tap. This also happens on my PS Vita and it is very annoying.
- Screen is alright but the contrast is not that great.
- It was sluggish. You could see stutters and slow downs just navigating the UI.
- Since there is no home button navigating though apps was a hassle. You had to open a menu and choose a option to go somewhere.
- Navigation was a mess. I may just be used to iOS but finding something was like searching a needle in a haystack.

I never owned a iPad and I had only messed with one for a few minutes in the past and I must say the iPad is worth the 4 plus Kindle Fires I could have bought instead.

Good for you. When the world economy is collapsing, people find it hard to keep a roof over their heads and feed their kids, not only can you afford one tablet, but you have two. Awesome for you.

So ok, now on to everyone else, are they going to buy two tablets too like you?

Why did you keep the iPad once you upgraded to the kindle? If I held a barrel to your head and made you choose between one and the other which would you choose?

I'm not quite sure why your response is so hostile sounding? I don't think it's all that unusual to have more than one tablet, having a larger tablet like ipad for movies, games, work & a smaller one for reading. Besides, I'd imagine in a family situation that sharing just one device would get tiresome as well.

Maybe I'm idealistic but I think having a wide variety of devices to chose from will equal continued innovotion & isn't that a good thing for all consumers?

You can buy what you want, that's your perogative. Expecting everyone to do the same, well that's certainly something. Personally I don't care who buys what. It's your life and your money.

Wow kind of makes you angry that someone actually enjoys their Kindle Fire. :)

Thank you. :)

ill put it this way.. my lady and i went with her mom and she bought the kindle fire. we left, went back n bought an ipad 3 for ourselves and ended up back at bestbuy hours later to return the kindle fire and she ended up with the ipad2. she hated the fire compared to the ipad.

As in day and night!

a tablet is not something i'll use a whole lot, just occasional web browsing or something like facebook when i don't wanna get up and get on my PC. i'll just use it occasionaly for basic things...how much am i missing my settling for a kindle fire? i got a refurbished one for $140 and debating whether or not to keep it, or a pay a little bit more and get something that is quite a bit better.

is the kindle fire even one of the better tablet that are out? or is it pretty far down the list?

iPad 3, has an absolutely incredible screen, is so much faster than the iPad 1 I came from, is it better than the Fire, without a doubt, and it has the iOSX operating system, what is not to like:p

The big differences are:
1) Screen size and resolution. If you're gonna watch movies, you better get the iPad (if you have the money for it)
2) The OS. Some people prefer iOS, some prefer Android. I believe iOS is a more stable but Android gives you more freedom.
3) The price. Have you used your kindle fire yet?
If the 7" is enough for you, better keep that. That's the biggest difference IMO.

I never said that I "expected everyone to do the same" I was just asking why the hostility to a person who owns two devices?

The kindle is good for what it is. The browser experience, isn't going to be great and it may be marginally slower than the ipad but it is a whole lot cheaper.

If you're looking for a do it all tablet then the fire isn't it. Its good for people on a budget trying to get in the table game and will be fine if your not nit picky.

The os is a skinned version of android and is able to be hacked if you're into that kind of stuff, lol. With android you are able to view flash and the youtube app is much better on android devices than ios.

The resolution 1024x600 and is powered by a dualcore omap processor with the powerVR gpu. It is not future proof but the specs are solid.

It only had 8gb of storage with not micro sd card expandability, which really stinks.

And this is an apple forum so you pretty much know what everybody is gonna say lol.

If you're only gonna read books and a little web browsing than get the kindle fire.

But if you want the best get the ipad, i know i did.

Apple invested a lot of time into the iPad.
Apple invested a lot of time into iOS.
Apple has an OS that doesn't suck. That
doesn't make them novel (unix); but it does mean
their OS isn't Windows (duct tape and popsicle sticks).
Apple doesn't have massive enterprise accounts like
HP/Dell/IBM. They market straight to a consumer.
Hence, they had to find a way to make impressions
at the consumer level to convert Windows PC users to Mac.
First they introduced the iPOD in order to re-shape their
brand identity. This allowed them to release products
such as the iPhone and now the iPad. Products like
the iPhone and iPad are specifically designed to convert
customers to Mac desktops/laptops. I am sure you are aware
of the "works out of the box" marketing of Macintosh computers.
Apple has to make smart phones and tablets that are second to none
in order for their business model to work.

iPad is the market leader. You compete with a market leader by releasing
the same product; cheaper or by offering something novel (different or better) enough yet
similar enough to detract customers.

Amazon and Barnes and Noble were market leaders with Kindle and Nook.
Clearly, they didn't know what they had; so they trashed their uniqueness (ereader is an ereader) by screwing up their line with the "Fire" and "Color".
Both of these products were cobbled together, over night, with very little foresight. Frankly, I don't understand how two businesses, that large, could make such a horrible mistake. But they did. I'll cut them some slack; when it comes to tech/software; tech/software companies as much as companies who enter tech/software simply don't operate with much business sense!

If you want a tablet that works, get an iPad.
Everything else out there are just rush-jobs that are more embarrassing
than operational.

Unfortunately, Apple is just one of the few tech companies you can rely on for common sense, I'm afraid.
