this isn't a "bitch about flash thread" this is a "apple is slowing os development by releasing "new" features when others have had them for years" thread.

Honestly, some of the "features" are so simple (folders, backgrounds, etc.) that I think Apple is simply undermanned and has trouble keeping up... They are one company, and as Jobs said, they still behave as a startup, so it feels to me like they are having trouble keeping up with the pace of innovation, they have way too many projects and not enough engineers to get the work done...

Look at this list and it's diversity

- OSX
- Apple TV (way over due for it's new software overhaul)
- Cloud based iTunes, and file syncing (way behind)
- Completely redesigning iTunes, which was not designed for what it is currently doing
- iPhone hardware
- iPod hardware
- iPad
- Mac hardware
- First party iOS software
- First party OSX software
- iOS development for the iPad (where the hell are the user accessible folders!?)

I understand they want to maintain quality, but they seriously need to add some more man power, 1 major hardware/software update for a cell phone is a really long cycle, and where Apple was once setting the tone for the rest of the industry, it now feels as though they are simply catching up...

BTW, I have owned the iPhone 2G, 3GS, and will own the iPhone 4, so I am no Android or other fan boy... I just call it how I see it...

Saladinos, just go to xda-developers.com and you will see all android phones are suported and they have new custom roms you can download for free, with the fro yo 2.2 update and other free apps. that site has thousands of people who help you with anything you need. I have been a member long before the iPhone was a glimps in Stevens eye.

It would be nice for Apple to floor the people with a truly innovative, never before seen feature, but at this stage, what is that feature? You can keep bumping up specs, but what is the mega-feature that will send the other phone manufacturers and OS designers running back to the lab to catch up?

That feature was video chatting but the wind was taken out of their sails a bit by the EVO and its fancy video chatting over 4g/3g. Every major smartphone company will have a video chatting phone on the market within 6 months.

i love apple stuff, don't get me wrong about that. But c'mon theres a level where "doing it right" and "behind the curve" meet and we are approaching that place.

Ok, but I keep reading reviews where people say the iPhone's cut-and-paste is far better than how Android does it.

So where does that leave us? Is Android both "behind the curve" and "not doing it right" at this point?

Or do you just give them points for being first and the fact that the iPhone's version is better doesn't really mean anything?

I have been with iPhone from the beginning and it was super doper freaking awesome at first. There was so much potential! Now i can't help but think about how apple seems like it will be in a pattern of releasing "new" features for the OS when they aren't "new" at all. New to the platform, yes, but not new to the competition.

I completely agree with you. YOU are definitely tired of the iPhone and you should definitely switch to another phone, and stop posting here about it.

See you back here in a few months when you realize that every other phone on the market completely sucks.

;)

And this isn't an "i care" post, but a "then buy the other phones and leave us alone" post...

i like the iPhone, i bought a iPhone 4 that im eagerly awaiting, im trying to start a discussion about apples update procedures. But you can't talk about one phone without inevitably comparing it to another especially when we talk features and os stuff. iPhone works for me now but i can seem myself leaving this platform for probably android in a year or 2 depending on whats on the market, how far android/ios have come, etc.

But of course: I don't like what you like and vice versa.

This exactly. They won't be the first to do it, but they'll likely do it best. Part of it is refining, part of it is withholding features to generate demand for future products. Neither or these is unique to Apple.

I hate to sound snarky, but if you dont like the OS or the Phone, they why not just get a new phone, it's just a phone, and a phone OS, you honestly care that much?? Just askin' is all, if I disliked something so much, it made me post over and over about it, I probably wouldnt own that device/product anymore....just sayin'......best of days to you!

EDIT: As I wrote this you replied stating you own and enjoy iPhone, never mind this post.

Isn't that like saying "I've seen my neighbor drive his Ferrari around for years so I shouldn't be excited that I finally got one myself.."

I mind your post for one reason! Some people have sports, others have video games, my hobby is tech news and technology in general so my smartphone matters a ton to me. My sister who has an iPhone 3GS cannot figure out how to use our wi-fi and recently found out about voice control. She doesn't care about tech as much as i do and what apple does on a yearly basis doesn't matter to her. I post because i care!

all of these new features and people are whining about custom ringtones for SMS? what are we 16?

SMH

Its the principle of buying a phone and we are restricted to do stuff which my 5 year old phone can do and I don't like having the ringtones as others.

Trust me I love all of the new features a lot, but it would be really nice to have something as simple as custom SMS ringtones. Sometimes the 7 they provide are really hard to hear in loud places especially since they are very short. And it's not like it would be that hard to implement...all they have to do is pretty much just copy the code for the custom ringtone page into the code for the SMS ringtone page and voila custom SMS ringtones.

I hope the iPhone 4 is as loud as my blackberry 9700 as my 3GS was really quiet and had a weak vibrate.

Windows Mobile had a number of "features" but they don't work very well

Maybe you should switch to it for your features list.

To answer the question posed in this thread's title:

Yes. Kind of.

I miss the simplicity of the original iPod:
