Just 5 minutes ago I FINALLY got an email saying my iPad 4 has shipped. Fedex standard overnight.

Why did apple spend so much extra money shipping all of these overnight? Odd.

Same here! Even tho I've been tracking it for 3 days now lol

Still no email but my mini is in rout from Kentucky to My local hub.

Apple and UPS did to give out tracking notices to prevent their tracking site from being hammered by the Apple people every 10 minutes.

I just got my shipping email at 4:15am, the morning it will be delivered. Apple is kinda fibbing when they say they will email when it ships. Like I said they are doing this to protect the UPS tracking site from excessive hits.

Mine is *still* showing as "Processing Items", but also states "Delivers 11/2". Unless they haven't updated the system I can't see that it's going to get here tomorrow :(

I got my confirmation email yesterday evening that my iPad 4 had shipped, it said that it had actually shipped on October 27, but I wasn't notified of that before yesterday

Mine was showing preparing to ship until this morning. None of the tricks worked to find it, serial number, phone number, order number... I just had to wait. Now it says its going to be delivered tomorrow morning.

How many of you are going to be using the pre-sign for delivery option vs. planning on being present when the delivery is made?

I'm thinking about it..I went ahead and printed the form and have it signed. However, my roommate will be home and in the living playing Assassin's Creed, like he has been doing all of today.

I could either have him sign for me, which he probably would, but if he is in the bathroom or something and doesn't hear the door then i will be a sad Panda.

I'm thinking I will use the pre-sign notice, put it on the door and check the tracking for it to be delivered, or see if they have any delivery text notification, at which point I will call or text roommate and ask him to grab it on the porch!

I hope it's delivered before I go to Lunch, that way I can set it up and bring it with me to work to fondle all day!!

Again, Sorry for the double post- but this might help some of you out who do not already know this:

After looking into FedEx's tracking options, they offer an option to pick up the package at a FedEx location. Luckily for me, there is a FedEx a few blocks from where I live, so I set it up and had them hold it there.

I was just called a few minutes ago by a gal over at that FedEx saying they received my request and will hold it for me as soon as it arrives!

Best of all, it was free!

I'm still going to place my pre-signature waver on the door...just in case.

The "standard policy" both UPS and FedEx have with Apple on these (and most other product launches such as iPhone 5) is that the carrier must make at least one delivery attempt prior to holding for pickup.

With that said, I'm sure there are small stations in small towns where that "policy" gets circumvented, but that's the way it's supposed to be.

It's always odd to me that people have their sh@$ shipped to places they won't be. Did you not know you won't be home tomorrow when you ordered last Friday? I get it that stuff comes up, but it always baffles me when people act like OMG it's being delivered tomorrow, a weekday, I work... ????

Was in Ontario Nov 27th...then left FEDEX Facility at Mira Loma Nov 1st, obviously next step Las Vegas...

It may be a policy, but I'm talking about something else entirely. It's a service they offer to skip delivering it to your home and just send it right to the FedEx pickup location. All you have to do is sign up for it while the package is en route and they will just send it to the store instead of having it sent to your house. They catch 22 is that they cannot guarantee when you sign up they it will be delivered to the store instead and that they may still deliver it to your house UNTILL they call and confirm with you to hold it. Then they will just send it to the Pick Up point instead.

Of course I knew I wouldn't be home. I work. I could have had it shipped to work, but I work at a medical facility that gets a ton of deliveries each day. What has happened in the past when people have stuff delivered here is it gets mixed up and put in a different department and ends up taking a few days before it's found.

I also did not know about the signature requirement for Apple delivery. I've never ordered something from Apple.com. I've ordered a few thousand dollars worth of gear from places such as Newegg, and they always just dumped it on my doorstep so I figured it would be the same. But alas, it is different policy for different places.

But I guess it is all moot, as FedEx called me this morning around 9am and told me they have the package at the store and are holding it for me to pick up whenever. I'm going to go pick it up on my lunch break here in 50 minutes.

What is even more awesome is FedEx usually doesn't deliver to my area until about 2:30-3:00pm, so having them hold it I actually gotten it way earlier. It's definitely something I will start doing from now on if I order anything and have FedEx deliver it. So I'm pretty happy with their optional "hold for pickup" service :D

You're lucky, again, the "policy" is that they deliver it to the alternate address the day AFTER the scheduled delivery, that's good they made an exception for you. It works well for you because it's "end of day delivery guarantee" for UPS and FedEx residential, but since they routed it to a business for you, you actually did well getting it earlier since business deliveries usually are before 10 or 11 am

It's the cheapest way for them. It's not like they drop off at the Palo Alto Kinkos 3 million iPads and say "Ship these overnight thanks" ( just kidding here ):D

FedEx coordinates an organized scheduled delivery

Of course this is pretty obvious, if you think about it.

I get what you are saying, but we are talking about two different things. This is a service they offer that is different from that policy you state. Rather than having them try to attempt to deliver it to your home first and then allowing you to schedule a pick up the NEXT day, You can instead opt for them to allow you and pick it up in the first place from said store.

You can schedule a FedEx Express pickup for the same day (provided you request it before the cut-off time in your area) or the next business day. FedEx Ground pickups can be scheduled for the next business day or up to 10 business days in advance. FedEx Ground® same-day pickup service is available in select areas (provided you request it before the cut-off time in your area) for FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery® packages, excluding FedEx Ground return solutions.
