my battery barely lasts the day and I usually have it on from 8am- around 10pm, before it hits red. I usually use it for music, a few apps, internet and phone for about an hour or so lately. i'm thinking about selling it and getting something else for phone and an ipod touch.

I upgraded to 2.0.2 and kept it for about two days. Both days, the battery drained to almost nothing even though I used it very little on those days.

Seriously: no phone calls, a few texts, a few minutes browsing in Safari. Nothing else. Under 2.0.1 and prior, I would've had 90% battery life at least. But it was dead by mid-evening under 2.0.2.

Not jailbroken, either.

I downgraded to 2.0.1 again and everything is fine once more.

I'm in the same boat 4hrs total lifetime call time use since 7/26/08.

Maybe I'll have to try and downgrade then, because I'm ready to go on vacation and can't see myself going "wait I need to charge my phone again - whaaaa". :(

Have you guys tried reflashing your iPhones to factory? i.e. don't restore any content or settings, perform a full restore and then measure the battery life.

I have been leaving location services on as well as 3G and using it at least 5 hours a day, usage time. I get the entire day and go red (20% warning) after 15 hours of standby time. So to make a long story short, I think I'm getting pretty good battery life while leaving all the services enabled.

Would you mind sharing what settings you changed? Thanks :)

1) Location Services = OFF
2) 3G = OFF @ home (Very thick walls = spotty service anyways, I mainly use WiFi)
3) Deleted 2 apps (from iPhone & iTunes) that started to crash after v2.0.2 update = Palringo & Facebook
4) Restarted iPhone
5) Reinstalled above apps, everything seems peachy now and no longer crash either

I've been getting better battery life since the update, but I think that's mostly because I finally realized that what was killing my batter was leaving apps running while the phone was sleeping. Now I always return to the home screen before I put the phone away, and I've been able to leave 3G on all day, every day, getting a fair number of push e-mails (and calendar and contact updates). I recharge every night, but I haven't come close to running out of juice during the day since I learned to quit apps when not actually using them.

My wife's was fully charged when we left the house at 6:30am and by 4:00pm she was redlined and due for a charge. She made 6 calls, didn't use Safari, about 10 text messages, and nothing else. Mine has about 70% life on the battery, when I walked in the door at 3:45pm. We're stopping by the Apple Store tomorrow. :(

Here are my results from the aforementioned changes I made above.

First pic is obviously the before and second pic is with the changes made after (if you also notice I still have about couple hrs on the right side shot). I also want to clarify the iPhone didn't have any battery issues until v2.0.2
