My 13" is an early 10' or later 09', can't remember. Still solid and kicking, actually on it right now lol. Even had like a huge cup of water spill on it from when dogs were chasing each other and nailed my cord hitting the cup, right on top of the keyboard. Flipped it upside down and turned it off, stuck in a pillow case full of rice, worked the next day no problems....except middle section of my keys backlight doesn't work, better than a fried computer lol

Have a 15" Early 2011 MBP with the hi-res screen option. Was my first mac and I bought it 2nd hand in November 2011. Doesn't get used much now I have the Air and the iMac (only has about 100 battery cycles on it), but it's just too beautiful to sell. Have a samsung 830 256 SSD and the original 750GB HD configured as a homebrew Fusion Drive, and it's got 16GB RAM.

My 2011 13" MBP running very well with upgraded 8GB RAM & SSD.

Here are the battery stats as well:

Mine died a couple of months back.
Saying that its had a very hard life and traveled everywhere with me, switched on 16 hours most days was dropped a few times from height and to the eye was battered.
I had put and ssd and 8gb ram in and the difference there was massive.
Just stopped working one day, had a friend whos a tech look at it and he said the motherboard was had it which was sort of my own view. Ended up selling it for parts.
But yes it was a great machine and I would certainly recommend them even now for every day use.

love my 2009 mbp 13" had over 1200 battery cycles now, and still on the original HDD.

just a slight dent on the top left hand corner since my son dragged it off the table 8 months ago...still going strong though, might stick a 256gb sad in it...

i even have a 13" macbook air 1.8ghz 28gb sad etc and just don't use it, luv this to much...might even sell the air as i can't see myself moving on from this machine..

best computer i have ever owned.

thanks

Ian

Coming from a PC, I'm surprised at how low the expectation is for the life of Macs. I have a laptop pc that works excellent and it's been 7 years!

I hope my MBPr lasts for 10 given the price! ;)

My family still has 2 of these 2010 13" machines around and they are solid performers. One is a 2.4 and the other is a 2.66GHz. Both have 8GB of RAM and SSDs, and run good-great under Mavericks. Both batteries have wear (the 2.66 more then the 2.4) with the 2.66 once issuing a "Battery Critical, Replacement Needed" once just before the warranty expired. Unfortunately, their diagnostics showed the battery was still healthy, even though OS X said Critical.

I expect both machines to run for quite a while even though both are outside of AppleCare.

Still running mine for lighter tasks even though its been replaced by a 15", needed a new battery earlier in the year. Hinges are still solid compared to my Thinkpad(2007) which wobbles.

Oldest Mac actively used is a 12" PowerBook G4, besides an old game or application... the smaller footprint is good for midi/rough recording sessions.

Mine still working perfectly.:) macbook pro 13 inch mid 2010 core 2 duo 2.66ghz 500GB HD with 4gig ram.:)

I used my macbook pro for Software/Web development rendering and musics.:apple::cool:

I'm pretty amazed on how a mac life span is I've had a mid 2010 13 inch MacBook Pro that's been the best laptop I've ever owned I was originally a windows user but when I saw the MacBook Pro I fell in love with it the specs are a 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo processor with 4 gigs of ram and a recently upgraded 250 gig ssd. I just wanted to know how many of you have mid 2010 macbook pros still kicking around.

Funny I stumble on this post today, I just bought my wife a used macbook pro mid 2010 on Amazon and she is sitting next to me using it, it looks and works great. I have a mid 2009 macbook I am currently using but might get a 2011 one here soon.

My late 2009 Unibody MacBook which has a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB ram a 250GB HDD and a 9400M is still going strong. I gave it to my mother last year and she absolutely loves it. It boots up in 33 seconds and is still pretty quick running OS X Mavericks. Ran better with Snow Leopard but its good enough for her.

Mid-2009 15-inch MBP
Works fine, probably because I take care of it :)
It used to run hot before and often fans reach full speed, but after cleaning the fans with a tooth brush (while i was oiling the left fan which was rattling and driving me crazy) it rarely gets that hot! There wasn't even much dust on there but it seems to have made a big difference!

It also seems to boot and function fast.
Only big problem is that some keys dont work so i have to use an external keyboard (apple keyboards are so fragile against moisture). Trackpad used to be glitchy but now seems to be fine. I almost use an external keyboard and mouse with it though.

I used to have a 2006 MacBook pro (2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB ram) and after 5 years that got a lot of wear and damage. the trackpad button went bad so I had to pul it out, and there was a mess of adhesive. Some keys didn't work. It was also very slow, probably because it only had 1GB ram which was the minimum of Snow Leopard. It probably had a lot of dust in it because it would run very hot and I would get severe lag spikes in games when it heats up. But it was a nice computer, I liked those classic MBPs. Sadly it wore out more in 5 years vs my 2009 unibody. I don't know if it was because the new unibody MBPs are more durable, or because it was used a lot and brought around a lot.

2010 13" MBP - mainly used at home for after-hours web browsing and light work. Have upgraded to 8gb and have recently installed Mavericks. I'm still rocking the standard 250gb HDD that came with it.

Of those who have upgraded to Mavericks, what is your battery life like?
I'm getting an indicated 6-7 hours with light work and web browsing.

Amazingly enough depends which browser you use more than the OS version you're running. I found that light web browsing and watching YouTube vids Chrome gobbles up CPU cycles. After switching to Firefox it's much better but latest version beachballs a lot :( Maybe I'll switch to Safari, dunno.

Mid 2009 8 GB RAM w/ 500GB HDD. Running 10.10 PB5 and it flies. Can't wait to drop an SSD in here. Not much difference between this and my MBPr (Late 2013) for day to day tasks. Just a lot heavier than the 2013.

Oooh, this thread makes my early 2011 feel nearly old but that is still in daily work usage :) my daughters White Macbook (2007?) is still in daily home usage too....

I can't believe my laptop (early 2011) is even old. It performs well with Snow Leopard.

Yes. I still use it daily. I have upgraded the HHD to a 1TO a few months ago.

mid-2009 MBP here

Still using my refurb mid-2009 MBP. Ordered with 4GB, came with 8GB (thanks Apple!). Upgraded to SSD in 2011, which means startup in less than 10 sec and apps launching almost immediately. Now, like another poster said, I am having trouble justifying an upgrade to a 13-inch MBA. This computer is still going strong after multiple trips to Africa, India, and Europe.

I also have a white 2006 Macbook that is using the old HDD from this MBP. Apart from dismal battery life in the 1-2 hr range, that one still works too. I am thinking of setting it up as a Plex server.

My 2010 15" MBP is still running beautifully. It has gotten a fair bit slower, but I guess that has to do with the hard drive and 4GB RAM

Died in March. Saying that it was in use 12-15 hours a day 5 days a week and doing pretty intensive stuff, ashamed to admit to dropping it many times so likely didnt help. Fried motherboard I think, I scrapped it for spares immediately, got £150 back for it though :D

My Mid 2009 MBP still works great!! 2.26Ghz C2D 4GB RAM 60GB SSD and 250GB HD 9400M. Wife has a Early 2009 Macbook (White Plastic One) that also works great, I put a 180GB SSD in it. She uses it everyday. and it doesn't even have any chips in the plastic!!

Bought one for my son before college, he is in his senior year and it is going strong. Updated RAM to 8gb, though, because he uses Logic Pro fairly extensively.

My brother has mine

My brother uses my old one daily an ssd and a ram upgrade means it's still a fantastic everday laptop.

macbook 13'' mid 2010 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

yup mine is still running as well, although i had to put in an SSD, since my original HD was about to go down soon...it became very slow and i had to reinstall too often. i also upgraded to 8 gigs of ram at that time. mostly because of the SSD my lap is like brand new (not exaggerating). it will run another 3 years easily i guess.
(only thing bad about that is, i can't stare at a retina display for that time;))

oh and i'm a heavy user, it's actually on 24/7, doing all kinds of stuff. it brought me through my bachelor studies and is now fulfilling its duty during my masters program. even gaming is okay, it ran WoW until cataclysm times, and now has to play games like Trine 1/2 from time to time, no problems. even though it is far from a gaming machine^^
painting in sketchbook / pixelmator with an old intuos3, is also a cool experience every single time. and watching movies, well it's a 13'' screen, but when it's sitting on my lap, it's good enough :)

and battery is still up to around 88% of the design capacity (sometimes goes up to 90, lowest up to now was 82), after about 1000 loading cycles (pretty crazy if you ask me. i actually fear this one will die first in this awesome system)

ps.: running yosemite
