[doublepost=1529949670][/doublepost]I want to purchase an apple watch for my wife for her birthday but I hear a new series will be introduced soon. Why buy a series 3 watch when series 4 with slightly larger screen and longer battery life may be around the corner. I want to make the best decision since these are not inexpensive items to purchase.
I have a purchasing policy that I’ve followed for the last three decades of Apple use: I buy what I need when I need it and I get the best product I can afford that meets my needs.

This means I never waste energy worrying about what might be released in the future. It also means I get the benefit of actually using the new tech. Sometimes that means I’m an early adopter; sometimes I enjoy the refinement of a mature release.

I just got my Series 3 Watch today and love it.

Apple watch is dominating the market. They will want to keep it going by introducing new Apple watch annually.

I think in terms of dominating the market, they don’t have to release an Apple Watch annually, but improvements with the technology itself will continue to keep the Watch ahead. Such as health related features and LTE, which clearly is Apples future with the Watch, being that they already have executed other things with messages and Apple Pay.

I do that, but I also buy anything that is actually new that I want. Hence I got the Apple Watch Sport, AirPods and Homepod the day they came out.

So if the Apple Watch changes a lot, I'll buy it immediately. if not, my Series 3 is working fine.

.

Another thing is that you can get the series 3 on eBay for quite a bit less now. I bought an open box 38mm LTE for $300, plus 10 percent earned on eBay bucks.

If the new one comes out this fall, you'll have to pay full price.

Just my preference, I don’t prefer purchasing refurbished devices off EBay. You might spend more on Apples refurbished devices, but I trust their inspections and it has a one year warranty included as new devices would also.
