Is AR only good for X or would plus and 8 be more than enough to handle AR?

It works with the a9 and up. Meaning 6s, SE, the latest (non-pro) iPad and everything higher.

Actually, no, you should buy the X, and you need to buy the top model with 256GB storage. I heard AR not only requires A11 CPU, but it also needs OLED screen and minimum 256GB storage to run well......

As of late, I haven't seen any good info regardless of "whinefest."

AR is affected in the front camera. Features in Apple’s new Clips app, “Selfie Scenes” puts you in a custom scene is only available in the X because of the TrueDepth front facing camera available exclusively on the X.
