I just bought iPhone 5 for full price, it says on receipt no service activated. Does that mean its factory unlocked?
OKAY GUYS, It's UNLOCKED... I will post some pictures soon
I'm pretty sure this is right for the AT&T models. Would be intrigued to know if it's the case for Verizon models. Apple Store aren't budging and are toeing the official line: that all "no commitment" phones are carrier locked...
Got it to work!!!! Unlocked phone baby!

Awesome, all we need is Verizon device confirmation...
So its safe to say if I buy non-commitment plan from ATT site, it will be unlocked, correct?
Is it still going to be same if I buy it from local ATT store?
Yea i get that sometimes too! Its because of the servers. The first link said mine was locked, the second said unknown. I have a factory unlocked 4S I bought directly from Apple...

and you don't have to have an AT&T account to do this correct?
Doing some cutting as well. Waiting for my sim cutter to arrive in mail today!

Yep. Works. Just tested voice, SMS, data. I'm adding a photo with a us tmo sim.
Sorry but could you explain why you would need/want to unlock a CDMA device? TIA!
No, I don't have an account.
But the problem is that I am not US citizen, so I dont have SSN. Usually when I try to start a contract at a local store, they ask for $500 deposit which they will give back in one year.
Since I buy no-commitment and from online ATT store, will I still need to pay this deposit?
I am doing just that, but for more gray market purposesI have friends who live in Los Angeles, can they just walk into an Apple Store and pick up a iP5 for 649 (+whatever the sales tax is) without signing upto a contract/plan and mail it to me in the UK?. It would save me like $150+ compared to here

As people have said though, you won't have useable LTE in the UK... so you have to decide if that'll be a dealbreaker for you. There's always 3G/HSPA+ ?
