I've not seen any pictures or videos of the classic buckle in use. For most, it doesn't appear to be on their radar compared to the link/milanese which have been shown in action more often.

I wanted the black classic or brown modern. Personally they look elegant for day to day wear without going over the top or too sporty. I ordered the black classic and will pick up the brown modern later on.

Remember the edition only comes in the leather bands for a reason. It looks elegant.

I personally feel as if i'm missing something by ordering the classic buckle.

A high tech watch should be used with a strap that also feels like it had some time invested in it's development, like the magnets inside the leather loop.

It's like the smart cover and the ipad 2: it felt like magic. That attention to detail, the cover always attaching to the same exact position...

I was personally set on the classic buckle from day one, I like the idea of the cutting edge tech of the Apple Watch matched with a strap style that has been around forever. I ordered a 42mm classic buckle last night along with the black sport strap. I think that combo will cover me for all occasions.

Up until this morning I had the idea of getting the leather loop in Blue or Brown.

Then I thought, it might be better in Black because it wouldn't show the wear as much.

...then I looked at the shipping dates..

..then I looked at the Classic buckle again more closely. I had originally thought I disliked the thickish looking buckle but could now see it was sculpted so it lays flatter than it originally appeared.

TBH I'm happier now with the idea of the Classic Buckle than the loop so I ordered that, but by offering more stock up front I think Apple did make it more popular.

I tried the 38mm classic buckle on this morning and walked away very impressed.

I originally and still do want the brown modern buckle 38mm but I am glad I ordered the 38mm classic buckle (I ordered both actually).

After leaving the store I am glad with my decision. I just wish we had an estimated shipment time of the modern buckle band only.

Another nice thought, since the classic buckle variant was one of the last watches to sell out; those of us that got our order in really early probably have a better chance for April 24th delivery.

I think the inevitable creases in the leather caused by the buckle might dissuade the type of people that are paranoid about natural wear and tear i.e., Apple fans that need their stuff to stay perfect, i.e., people most likely to preorder in the first few hours. It might not be the same for the general public.

I pre-ordered the 42mm classic buckle watch as well. I like my watches big and sturdy looking. I have a fossil watch I got as a wedding gift 3 years ago with a leather band and there isn't much "creasing" of the leather. I'm hoping the Apple Watch holds up for at least half that long, because you know... they will come out with an upgrade next year that we will all buy again anyway.

Still makes no sense to me that this was one of the easiest models to pre-order, but when I ordered a classic buckle separately at 3:03, it gave shipping time of "May" (no date). Why would that be??

Has anyone managed to try this on yet?

Yes, I did. It was very comfortable and looked nice. But I do not think it is worth $100.

If that is the particular look you are going for it may be worth it depending on what your budget is.

I like the classic look of the buckle, especially for working in a fairly professional office environment (Not a huge fan of link bracelets) but I'm wondering how the black classic buckle would look with the black sports as I'm fairly budget conscious now but would like to swap them out. Seems like during try - ons they aren't allowing too much swapping outside the curated looks. May have to wait to see what that combo looks like

Originally I ordered two Sport in Space Grey. At 3:08am the ship time was 4-6 weeks (in Canada).

Went to the store on open and I tried on: Sport Space Grey, SS Milanese, SS Black Leather and SS Classic Buckle (because it was still showing launch availability). My wife tried on all the same.

I liked the SS much better than the Space Grey. The Space Grey is cool, but more casual and "Casio 80s". The SS seemed a little more upscale.

The Milanese loop felt gorgeous and airy on the wrist. But metal bands and MacBooks don't get on so well and I'm a writer. The Black Leather was lightweight, soft and scratch free (on the MacBook), but the delivery date by then was June.

The Classic Buckle felt much nicer than I expected. The leather feels terrific, the buckle is a nice slim affair, and the look is pure class with the SS bars.

So since the Classic Buckle was still available for launch, I ordered two of those instead and cancelled the Space Grey. I also ordered rubber straps for the gym.

I ordered the classic buckle.

I also ordered AppleCare+ for the watch and hopefully the one concern about this strap I have won't make me use it.

The strap looks beautiful, I've worked leather and I can tell you this is a beautiful tanning job with very fine skiving etc. You can't see it but I bet there must be a join around the bar mount that connects to the watch.. I mean, how else do you get the leather around a formed loop of steel..?

Anyway, I digress, the one area that I'm marginally worried about is the end that goes into the buckle.. It isn't a wraparound, it's somehow poked into a slot in the buckle and secure.. and one would hope that it's pretty likely to stay stuck in that hole because if it breaks free then that's the strap pretty useless.

I could believe that they poke the leather in and pin it through a hole in the buckle and that the grinding off and polishing leaves no sign. In this case it's a beautiful piece of work and it's likely to be very sturdy indeed.

Only time will tell though.

fell asleep

I ordered the Classic Buckle because it still had early shipping estimates of 4/24 to 5/8. But went to store today and tried it on. I just wasn't a fan. It didn't look as good as the black leather loop or the black sports band. And was kind of annoying to put on, adjust, put excess loop in leather ring on strap.

In pictures I think it looks great. In person, it just was pretty unimpressive.

The sports band feels a lot more premium than I was expecting. The leather loop is my favorite though.

42 Classic

This was my first choice; I overslept my alarm, and ended up ordering it at 1am Pacific (but way late/early Eastern), and was pleasantly surprised that it was available with the 4/24-5/8 delivery time. We'll see how long they take to actually arrive. I wonder how quickly the personal pick-up stock went; I didn't realize that 4/24-5/8 was actually the first delivery window.

My wife went to try them on today. Her first choice was the SS 38mm with the classic buckle. She said the buckle was clunky and stuck way out. Tried the Milanese band and loved it.

I wish the Classic Buckle had the same NASA material as the Modern Buckle. My Tag Heuer Grand has the crocodile stretch thin over five year where the band connects to the watch. Every couple of years I find myself replacing my bands in my Tag Heuer collection at over $600 a band.

With that said, I ordered 38mm SS White Sport Band for my wife and 42mm SS Black Sport Band for myself. I added Classic Buckles for each of us. Mainly because the Modern Buckle is not available for my wife. I also added a Leather Loop for casual use.

I ordered the classic but after seeing them in store I wish I would've ordered the leather loop. It looks great and fits like a glove
