Presumably this update is only available as a standalone download, and not as part of a software update package?

Good question. ISTR someone mentioning that they had found /System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row and associated files on their system after a combo update, but nothing happened when he tried to start Front Row.

I can't find the post now, but I would have thought that there are a fair few people out there who have installed the combo patch but not Front Row and could confirm or deny this. I've just kicked off a download of the latest combo - I'll see what it contains and post an update (but it'll take some time to fetch).

I taught third grade and always taught them to ask themselves "what if everyone did it?"
Then everyone would have Front Row, and Apple wouldn't care.

....Again, all I need is a link to something which supports your assertion, as I clearly cannot find it in the SLA. And something is not assumed illegal unless it can be proved legal - the opposite is true.

Provide me proof, and I'll shut up....

from the SLA you posted above;

"C. Except as and only to the extent permitted in this License and by applicable law, you may not copy, decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, modify, or create derivative works of the Apple Software or any part thereof."

Wouldn't using an enabler fall into the catagory of "modifying" or "creating derivative works" which would be prohibited under the terms of the license??

See the attached Front Row 1.0.1 SLA. It allows any "Apple-labeled computer." All of my Macs are Apple-labeled computers. I suspect most Macs are....

If you buy a Macintosh with Front Row installed, you have a license to use Front Row. If you didn't buy such a Macintosh, you don't own a license.

The license allows you to use Front Row on any other Apple-labeled computer that you own, as long as you didn't make copies, that is, as long as you removed it from the computer it was shipped on.

You also are allowed to use it on an Apple ][ computer or an a Macintosh Plus; I doubt very much it would work. You are not allowed to run it on a Dell Computer.

But if you don't have a license of Front Row in the first place, you are not allowed to use it.

And BINGO was his name...

Thank you... :)

Exactly.

If Apple wanted it to be a free download and for everyone to use it, they would provide a web page as they do with iTunes and QuickTime.
