Yep. Even between my S8+, which has a massive 6.2" screen, there are occasions where some content just feels bigger on my 5.5" iPhone.

People will just have to experience it first hand to fully understand.
S8+ feels good to me, I love that on youtube you can fill the whole screen, looks really good even if some content is cropped.

I will be waiting for the iPhone X Plus next year. I simply cant go to an overall smaller screen.

I think people imagine they will be getting this plethora of additional content with the longer display in portrait.

You end up scrolling the same amount mostly based upon my last 5 months with the Galaxy S8+.
Yeah, even coming from a 4.7" iPhone it won't be that huge of a difference, since the usable space will be 79pt more vertically (the status bar is now double the height at 44pt and the bottom bar is another 44pt). It's just 10pt taller than the 7+ usable space.

With some software optimizing it will be better. Lets see how IOS 12 will be on the X.

What’s most offputting about the X to me is the decrease in screen real estate versus the plus sized phones.

Good comparison site here;

https://www.paintcodeapp.com/news/ultimate-guide-to-iphone-resolutions0

The X is 375 points (not pixels) by 812, but really 375 by 782 minus the 30 points of notch.

The Plus phones are 414 by 736.

So with the X there’s a vertical space gain of 46 points (excluding notch), horizontal loss of 39 points. The X is same points width as the existing non plus phones, but physically slightly wider.

I can blast away on a Plus portrait keyboard easily, but the non Plus phones feel pokey to me. I have average sized hands, never had any problems with one handed operation for nearly everything. I never use a case.

Im half tempted to wait for the X Plus, I do NOT miss the narrowness of non Plus phones. I much prefer iOS to android having used both a lot (work phones always been android), strayed from iOS for a few years because the 4/5 sized phones were too small for too long. It was the Plus phones that pulled me back in, Godfather 3 style.

I’ll preorder one, have a play (in January probably!) and make my decision then I think.

I'm just the opposite. I watch everything in native aspect ratio on my S8+ and have black bars.

I don't like zoomed and cropped content. Always seems off to me. Works better for some type of content than others. YMMV.

I just like it when the full 6.2inch screen is used. The S8 just has such a beautiful screen.

Screen area:

iPhone = 60.88cm² (16:9)
iPhone Plus = 83.39cm² (16:9)
iPhone X = 82.61cm² (2.17:1)
Galaxy S8 = 85.38cm² (2.06:1)

This does not take into account the corner curves or notch on the X or the corner curves on the S8. So by pure screen area the Plus is ever so slightly bigger than the X. But the X will be much more comfortable to hold.

If the rumors hold true maybe next year we will see an iPhone X Plus!

Truth. It is the best display I've ever seen on a phone. Was instantly sold.

The curved edges are another factor that play a role in making content look smaller.

I’ve used 7+ and have s8 as my personal phone, which as a bezel less 5.8in screen and honestly I don’t really notice any difference in the screen real estate between the 2. However, the s8 is infinitely more pocketable than the 7+.

This is what did it for me. I don't consider the part of the screen that begins curving as being equally "usable", and especially not the ears to the left and right of the bezel. Watch the official Apple demo video below:

https://images.apple.com/media/us/i...overview/primary/design_gestures/large_2x.mp4

You can clearly see the space near the curves is white space and wasted.

Additionally, I dislike that it's more narrow than the 8 Plus. They should have made it as wide as the 8 Plus.
It seems like they made it narrower to eek out a longer diagonal than the 8+. The top corners are wasted space.

Finally, some legit numbers.

It's sad to post #2 in this thread spread false information.

Anyone with high school math skills can use the Pythagorean theorem to conclude the iPhone X has a smaller display area than the Plus. It doesn't even take into account the rounded corners and notch yet.
