It really depends on your Mac whether it will be done in an hour or not. Could take a few hours if it is an old one.

Just throw it in iTunes. 🙂

I think so. It says something about ipod 5g support.....

In iTunes preferences, do you have the box checked that says: Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding items to Library?

If you do, every time you add a movie you ripped from the desktop to iTunes, it makes a copy. So, if that box is checked, once you have added the movie to iTunes, you can delete if from your desktop to save space.
