The logic board chipset is still 32bit though.

That doesn't matter. The only difference that a 64 bit chipset would make is to be able to use more than 4 GB of memory. There is only space for two RAM chips. Take a look at what 2 GB chips cost. Now think how much a 4 GB chip would cost you (if you could get them), so nobody could afford an 8 GB MacBook Pro anyway.

what is this whole santa rosa thing?
if i get a macbook pro now will i regret it when santsw rosa comes out or is it just a speed upgrade?

yes

and when santa rose comes out and they announce another NEW processor, you will ask the same question. so the best solution is to never buy one at all! :D

you're joking right, just buy one now and be happy with it. If it bothers you too much after santa rosa is released sell it and buy a santa rosa one.

You said you ordered a 17" MacBook Pro with the 100 GB HD

Did you order a NEW 64 bit Core 2 Duo 17" MacBook Pro or a closeout on the previous 32 bit 17" MacBook Pro?

The reason I'm asking is the HD size you mention.

The stock HD on the NEW Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro is the perpendicular 160GB HD

and then in june he cant wait until august, september, october, or november for the new processor!

That was my point. I am buying the low end 15" as soon as Amazon has it in stock. But it's not always a good time to buy.

A month ago was a terrible time to buy a MBP. Today is a great time. It just gets me that I tend to buy my hardware Q4, and I am always given a copy of iLife that is outdated within 6 weeks.

it's good to buy now. i think the heat problem's not there anymore, and you won't expect an update in at least 4 months, and it very likely it's going to be a 0.33 ghz bump.
