I ordered a MBP but shortly after I received it Apple released the new MBAs, which made me unsure I had made the right choice as I travel a lot. So I returned the MBP, and fooled around with the Airs in the store a lot afterwards.

However after really handling both I have come to the conclusion that I dont desire the Air, the MBP is a real treat in comparison in every way (except perhaps weight, but it is not a dealbreaker)…and I want to order the MBP again in the exact same configuration as I had before! (It was BTO)

Will this raise flags at Apple? Will they flag me as a serial returner or blacklist me if I do this? The unit I received was really flawless, I returned it judt because the timing coincided with the release of the other computer. Would apple be more likely to send me a unit with defects/blemishes the second time around? Or is all this nonesense and should I just reorder already?

Hmm... You don't need any reason at all to return a purchase to Apple.
First time return?
I don't think it is unusual at all for someone to return a Mac, then order the identical one again.
Does Apple have issues with multiple returns/reorder/return/reorder/etc.? Seems like it, as you might have seen other threads here that report those kind of issues.
And, again, I don't think Apple would have issues with your single return.
Now, if you would do this two or three times, then you might need some kind of discussion with Apple, maybe.
And, I am pretty sure that Apple does NOT keep a pile of units that are known to be defective in some way, just to send to you for spite. (Why would any company do that?)
You're overthinking this. Order the MBpro that you want. Don't worry about defects before you get your order.

Yep, Best Buy is selling the MBP 16” M1 Pro at discount. I just got mine instead of waiting for the 2022 model. It is more than enough for my needs and at around $300 off, I could not resist.

ha you won't even be a blimp on their radar, enterprises return hundreds of units at one time and follow by ordering more or less the next quarter, this was especially true during the butterfly keyboard era.

I recently cancelled (not returned) 5 MBA/MBP but purchased 1 MBP and 2 iPhones. I also have a current MBA on order. All were done with an Apple Card and never had the slightest peep out of Apple.

Apple will ban you for life…

Kidding, it's fine. There are people actually returned for colour switch.
