I have had lots of Apple products delivered to my house including many customer ordered computers and not one has arrived damaged. I have always had to sign for them or I requested to pick them up from the FedEx depot by my work so there has never been a concern about theft of the package.

On my Ring neighborhood app, there have recently been several videos posted of package thieves but I don't think Apple will leave a package without signature.

I think you're over-thinking it to be honest. Go for whatever option is most convenient for you.

I had my first Mac Pro (before the trash can) delivered to my house. The delivery person kindly put it on the corner of my porch and then place the welcome mat on top of it to hide it. Gave me a good laugh.

Yeah, basically given the power of the computers today, the OP cannot go wrong. The only caveat is to be sure to pick the correct storage.

I plan to have 1TB for Mac OS and 1TB for Windows. If I want to create a linux virtual machine of 500GB under Parallels for Mac, how many additional physical storage do I need for Mac OS?

When you choose to pick up in Apple Store (oficial one, not resellers and so) do you receive tracking number? Or it goes with other shipments to the store and then just receive an email when it has arrived?

I went to Apple store and asked a staff the advantage of picking it up in store, she said that in that case I do not need to pay for shipping cost. Isn't shipping free!?

Shipping is free, but this year Apple gave an option for express shipping for $8, not sure if that makes a difference or not.

For the configurations I want, it will be delivered on Dec 5 to 10! However, if I have it shipped to a nearby Apple Store, it will be Dec 10. Why it takes longer to ship to Apple Store vs. to ship to home? How likely are these days just the worst case? As some of you know, Lenovo always under estimate the delivery time these days. Don't know about Apple.
Apple typically gives a longer estimate, then slowly shortens it. Mine has already moved up 6 days earlier...to the store. They under promise and over deliver....good business practice.

Just the opposite of what Lenovo has been doing.

To minimize the possibility of damage, you should have it shipped to your home or work then have it held at FedEx/UPS. Then pick it up at the carrier's customer center. This eliminates the loading on to the delivery truck and it riding around all day. You can also inspect the package before signing for it.

That is good advice. Even better, if you are near an Apple store, have it shipped there. You can open it, inspect it, set it up, and still return it for full credit on the spot, if need be. I bought an iPad Pro, returned it to the store and they let me exchange it twice, trying to determine if there was a defect causing it not to hook up properly to my Insta360OneX. They were very nice, and patient about it. But I often have FedEx packages held locally so I can pick them up safely later. Either option works well.

I’m picking my 16” up at the Apple Store on Wednesday. Do you think it’s best practice to open it up there to inspect it in the store? Any disadvantages to waiting until you’re home besides having to potentially make another trip?

No disadvantage beyond having to go back. I actually wait until I get home, as well. I want to take my time and enjoy the setup process. You have 14 days to return it, even if it is just because you changed your mind. You don't even have to keep the boxing materials in pristine order. They will take it back for any reason at all.

Thanks for the response. Like most Apple stores, mine is constantly busy, finding a corner to check things out could be a problem.

I ordered my new 16 inch MBP for in-store pickup for the very reason that I can inspect every inch of the chassis, keyboard and the screen for build defects. The staff are always very patient with me. I go at night about an hour before they close so the stores are usually not packed so I can even have a listen to the speakers just in case. I do that with BTO and in stock units.

I just picked up my new 16 inch MBP middle spec in-stock model with the 2.3 i9/16 Gb/5500M/1 Tb config last night by doing the same thing. I spent a good 45 minutes sitting at one of their 2 setup tables and they had about 2 helpers per table in case of questions or issues. I was able to unbox, inspect, setup and rebox my new machine without hassle. I walked out knowing that I could have exchanged my stocked unit if I were to find any issues on the spot. The time saved for having to drive back to the store is immense.

We’ll see when I get there. I’m gonna have go in the morning before work because the Apple store will be closed when I get out. Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for?

Some of the delivery firms here have the habit of just leaving stuff on your doorstep if you are not in. So for that reason I've opted to collect in store

I does help to make an appointment for the pickup online. Mine is the same way.

I would just avoid lunch and after 3 PM. In the mid morning and after 1:30 or so Apple stores have light traffic. Then around 3 kids from schools show up. And after 5 people stop buy after work.

I usually go around 10:30 and have the store to myself.

Make sure there are no dent, scratches on the chassis and no dead pixels on the screen by displaying a total white screen, which you can get with a quick Google search. I would look closely and move my eyes left to right from top to bottom.
