Mmmh - sounds like a new business idea: Make Watch bands that allow to connect two Watches (Apple or mechanical in every desired combination) in parallel - either side-by-side, stacked 2D along the wrist or hiding one upside down under the wrist (for an additional fee, the latter version allows to simply turn the band to easily bring up either Watch for the respective situation).

I vaguely remember back in the 80’s when I was in high school and Swatch was all the rage. But I think I remember some of the rich and popular kids wearing more than one Swatch watch at a time.

As long as the Apple watch is hidden up a sleeve I would say sure it’s ok to wear two watches. The Apple Watch is functional and recording activity data whereas the mechanical is the pretty watch that you will prefer to see

This question is best asked to women as they have a much better sense on aesthetics, fashion and good taste. When my wife told me that it is “infantile” to wear “two watches”, it was time for me to stop this habit.

I've seen ppl who wear their AW to record a workout or meet a goal on their AW, but doesn't bother to take off their traditional watch. It's not a fashion statement- wearing two watches. So I wouldn't do it all the time.

Probably infantile to spend so much on a watch in the first place when you have a perfectly good phone to tell the time ?

Just a hunch that those who wear expensive non-smart watches are probably doing so for fashion, not just to tell time.
For me that's kind of right. But, it's not a "fashion statement" towards other people; I often resist wearing my watch in public since I don't like appearing elitist. I just enjoy the look of the watch, which I guess is fashion.

When I go out of the house with short sleeves, I always choose one watch. Unlocking my phone is so much easier when I have my Apple watch on, so that's what I choose most often. If I had a touch id phone, then I'd pick my nice watch instead.

I wish I wasn't embarrassed to be seen wearing two watches, but some posts on this thread show clear disdain for that behavior. On the other hand, my wife says I shouldn't worry since I'm too old and ugly for anyone to bother looking at me.

Wearing an Apple Watch on one wrist and a mechanical on the other is like towing your vintage sports car with a Tesla so you can show the old car off. lol I guess the exception would be something like a Whoop strap that doesn’t show the time.

For me it’s the opposite. Wearing two watches is like going to a restaurant that serves exquisite food (a multigenerational watch) and having to order my kids chicken fingers (disposable electronics). Otherwise my kids won’t eat (unlock my freakin’ phone).

Don’t get me wrong. I’m a mechanical watch nerd who owns a Rolex and others that I’d love to wear, and I’ve even taken watchmaking classes, but I’ve got some hereditary heart issues I’m dealing with, so the AW is kind of important, and I refuse to wear a mechanical watch on the other wrist when the AW tells perfectly good time…actually, better time.

You don’t need to use your watch to unlock your phone. You can use FaceID or a PIN.

It's one of the things I miss about the apple watch now that I'm back on mechanicals and quartz... Whatever my AW said the time was, that was The Time. I never had to try to remember "does this one like to run fast or slow".

I know you can get radio controlled traditional watches, but I haven't seen one I like yet.

FWIW, I think the G-Shock Full Metal 5000 and 2100 series are the coolest radio controlled watches (I have a 5000.)

When traveling I wear an Apple Watch on one arm and a Fenix on the other. GPS tracking uses a lot of battery juice and the Apple watch will exhaust the battery within a few hours. The Fenex can go up to 24 hours so I can track a whole day.

That’s a bit different, because at least you have a functional reason.

Out of curiosity, why bother with the Apple Watch at all in that case?

Mmmm, nice!

If you like that, you might also be interested in Casio's new steel-case vintage style lineup, the A1000 series.

I think it changes the feel a lot, to get away from resin casing. Not radio controlled, but it does have a higher-accuracy movement.

Not at all. The number one reason why especially men wear a luxury watch is for signalling status. So yeah, the purpose of mechanical luxury watches is not to tell time, but as a sort of jewellery. Nothing infantile with this.
