Is it idiotic to buy a macbook now?

I'm buying one for my wife, and intending doing so by the end of November when I go abroad for a few days, so can get it tax free at the airport. I'm really hoping Apple will update on or before November 6th, so she'll get the latest hardware, if not, then a current mid-spec model is on the cards, and won't make a lot of difference to her as it'll be a lot better than the 4 1/2 year old Toshiba laptop she's currently using!
