It's not important anymore. Only if I go on vacation, but than I have my PowerBook with me anyway.

I love having the ability to pull up some really obscure song from my library whenever I want. Because of that, I like having my entire library, complete albums, even if some of them are rarely listened to.

Also, some music takes time to grow on you. You may not like a song the first few times yo hear it, but over time you may eventually love it. If I was to pluck the songs I initially don't like off of albums before loading them onto my iPod, I feel like I may be potentially missing out on something good because I'm not giving it a chance.

Currently I'm still hanging on to my 30GB 3rd generation iPod (love that design), even though my music is 45GB, photos 10GB, plus some video (I haven't really ripped much since I don't have the space or capability with my current iPod). I really hate not being able to have everything with me at once.

At this point I am probably going to try and hold out for a full screen, non-iPhone version of iPod. I'm just not a big fan of the clickwheel for some reason...

Not important at all. My fave iPod so far is the 2G Shuffle purely because it doesn't take up any pocket space, weighs nothing, lasts an age and completely controllable without even looking at it. Can't fault that in my books. I've only used up about 300mb too. Came to realise I only like the *best* songs on the go and end up skipping most of them

Ps. my iTunes library has 20gb of music, 6gb of films, 30gb of TV.

It isn't really important to me, but I do like to at least own an iPod that is capable of it.
My 30GB iPod 5G holds my whole library including all types of media, but I rarely use it outside of my house, its just too big, especially with a case.
My 8GB iPod nano 2G holds all of my 4 and 5 Star rated songs and all of my favourite recent podcasts, and I use it to listen to podcasts at night and sometimes when I go to college. My friends probably use it more than me!
My green 1GB iPod shuffle holds 250 songs autofilled from my 5 Star playlist, and I use it for a few hours everyday and love it. But i would not want it to be my only iPod.
So, it is nice to have an iPod that can hold my whole library, but the shuffle is my favourite iPod.

When the iPhone comes out, it will be the perfect for me, but i will probably use my shuffle for general music listening on-the-go.

I have ~26 Gb in my iTunes library. A sizeable percentage of the tracks I have are alternate or "dub" dance mixes, or stuff some of my family may want to hear from time to time but that I don't particularly care for. As I tend to use my nano primarily as a high-capacity shuffle, I want to minimize the amount of tracks I'd probably skip over. Even if I had a full-size iPod, I still probably wouldn't sync my entire collection.

(That said, I'm longing to see some of the 2nd gen color shuffles appear on Apple's refurb list; I'd buy a refurb blue shuffle to match my nano with little hesitation, and AutoFill it from a list of "essential" tracks that I've already developed for my nano.)

As I have 180GB of music and 99% of those are complete albums, it is unlikely I will ever be able to hold all my music on an ipod. As they get bigger, so does my music folder.

It would be nice to have it all with me though. I often take long road trips and have the pioneer ipod adapter for my deck. It is nice to be able to listen to something completely random. Or, if something pops in my head, I like to be able to throw it on.

I guess its a matter of preference but for me it really matters.

Like youre with friends and then this song pops up in a conversation, if you have ur entire library with u, you can always call up any song you have.

Also depending on your mood, company (e.g. girls, friends, parents) in the car...

Having entire library is very flexible.

The more you have, the less valuable each individual part becomes. I noticed this when I was a heavy "pirate" during my teens and tweens. Now I maintain a max of 5 albums on my 20 gig iPod and I couldn't be happier. Finally listening to music again :)

A few years back I ripped mountains of my parents LPs and CDs but it was way too much. Over the past year or so I've probably only added a few more albums. Doesn't help that I find most new music absolute pants :D

Before my Shuffle I used to use my ROKR as my iPod, and before that an iPod Mini, aaand before than a 3G iPod. It's physical size when it comes to me. I like pockets free and am more amazed with adequate small tech than super fast big tech. Just look at the systems I own :D

Exactly! The other time I love having it is when traveling. I travel for work 2-4 weeks per year and being able to have my whole library for that time without having to pick only what I think I might want to listen to is definitely an advantage.

And sometimes you hear a song on the radio that triggers an association and you just HAVE to listen to that album/other song/whatever RIGHT THEN.

So, I too would like a 120gb iPod. My library is around 60GB now, which means even the current ones don't work, when you add in formatting and being able to have contacts and such.

My choice:

Modify iTunes so that we can have libraries - making it easy to move a library from my iPod to my shuffle.

Let me plug in both machines to my computer, and put my "children's" library, with children's songs and movies on my iPod, and the album I just got on my shuffle before I go baby sitting my grandchildren.

I don't *want* all my media on when my grandson plays with my machine. Heck, I want to eliminate most menus for him - let that be part of the library.

I haven't used mine much since August (new car, no AUX input, and I'm paying $50 for an FM adapter). But, I still like having everything on there, which means it's almost time for a new one.

Test out the adapter placing the iPod where you will be playing it. Think about whether you will be using it in the back seat ever.

I like when I can fit most of my music, tv shows, movies on my 60GB iPod, but it definitely isn't anything mandatory. I like to have a mix of things for those, "Oh ****, I wish I had something to listen to/watch" moments. Better to be prepared! ;)

It is very important to me that my iPod hold my entire iTunes library. What good is a lower quality iPod resolution video on my computer when I could watch a much higher quality version that's not in my iTunes library? I have everything backed up in a higher quality on DVDs, so I just delete things from my library as my anime collection grows. I could really use an 80GB iPod Video instead of my 60GB.

I voted for the I don't feel that all of my songs need to be on my iPod.

And at this moment I am unchecking the songs/podcasts that I feel don't really need to be added to my iPod.

I burn any and all videos to CD/DVD as they take up more space than I have on my PB.

Being a musician, I think it's rather important to have my library with me, so I'm able to pull up certain recordings at any given time. That said, I went with a refurb 2 GB nano because it was the cheapest and most practical. And it held 4 times the amount of songs that my 1G shuffle held. My next iPod will definately be at least 20 GB (I may buy a used one off of one of my friends, only needs a new battery). I'm not too big on videos, although it would be pretty slick to be able to watch some of my video podcasts when away from my computer. And the videos would probably look better on the iPod to boot!

I have a 30 gig video and a 6 gig mini and i can fit all my music and photos on there which is great to have on the go (laptops aren't that common in high school) but sadly all my videos can't fit...not that i really expect them to(approx.95 gig) soanyway back to subject i say its not that important to have all your music unless you listen to ALL your music.

No, because even if 250GB iPods were available, my iTunes library would barely fit on it. It's mostly video though. All my music is on my 30GB 5G iPod:)
