Apple Watch Ultra or any apple watches are meant to be worn on wrist. So it is expected. It does add a good character to your apple watch. If you are a person who wants to protect it, then get a case.

I had Space Black Titanium S7 last year and still in pristine condition out of the box despite the fact that i wore it and banged it agains doors (including metal frames) and yet my S7 has no scratches whatsoever).

I never babied my Apple Watch S5 Ti and now the S8 SS and they're like day 1.

The dings, scratches are so ugly on the Ultra design honestly.

I've had mine since launch and wear it every day. I wear it in the gym, lift weights and don't take it off. I don't take if off for yard work, house work or really anything. I have taken it off to work on a car. Its not going to be scratch proof as its Titanium any more than a Ti bracelet is. It's holding up as good or better than the AW7 ti, which held up just fine for me.

If you wear a watch daily and expect no wear, you have an unrealistic expectation. If you don't abuse it, it will stay looking good. If you abuse it, it might not look perfect but I bet the glass stays intact and never breaks going by the heavy abuse testing that could barely damage it until using a hammer...

Do you have a few dinks on the raised part around the screen? Hard to tell from the photo.

If I can’t see them without a micro lens photo, and you can see them form a closeup picture like I posted, does it really matter?

That’s kind of my point.

I work around large metal doors that open with paracentric keys and have clipped it on the steel latch going in and out of rooms and I see nothing worth mentioning in the finish of my Ultra. If it does get dinged, life goes on.

As has been said, it’ll be worthless in a few years so it won’t matter to most but wanting it to look pristine is perfectly okay too.

As at work and at outdoor activities it’s easy to get damaged, I use a Spigen case. Otherwise I remove it. And I know one day it’s gonna get scratches and scuffs out of nowhere so, I am prepared for it. I just hope that I can keep it pristine for 6-12 months. Later I won't bother much.

Isn’t it an extreme sports watch designed to be put in harsh environments? You shouldn’t have to baby it or really worry. I always think with Apple Watches they need to be used as they are not investment pieces and have a relatively short life. Retiring a pristine AW to a drawer would be a hell of a waste wouldn’t it?

there's probably a market for protective screwdriver tips too.

I’ve had mine for just over a month now. I slapped a screen protector on it, but as far as I can tell, the body is still in perfect shape. I wear it all day except the shower.

I’ll never understand the people who buy a smartwatch and obsess over scratches and dents like it’s some investment piece that is losing value because if it. Use the damned thing and enjoy it’s features for the short years it’s relevant. No point retiring a watch into a drawer that you’ve handled with velvet gloves. This is an extreme sports watch and it supposed to be put in situations where it’s bashed about.

The screen on my S5 AW is melted and scratched. It’s had a fulfilled life and I haven’t had to worry about how it looks, life is too short.

Wore my ultra mountain biking yesterday and spent a lot of time off my bike...unintentionally.
Watch came out just fine - I didn't give it a second's thought. I was busy worrying about whether I'd make it out alive!
It was muddy, slippery and pretty dangerous, but isn't that what these things are made for?
I got home, had a shower with it on, so I could rinse the muck out of it and then took the band off and threw that in the wash, as it had turned from orange to brown.

Now back to showroom condition. Ish.

I have been wearing my Apple Watch daily since I got it on Christmas Day (2022). It still looks new and I have knocked on it against door handles and stuff. My old apple watch series 6 aluminum model was a scratch magnet and one of the reasons I got the Ultra was for the durability aspect. Not let down by this so far.

The aluminium models aren’t scratch magnets, it’s the wearer that causes the damage. It’s possible to wear them for years without a single scratch if they are not abused in my experience. They are designed to be worn though and mine is now pretty scratched up, but it’s in its forth year of use. Quite pleased I won’t be retiring it to a drawer in pristine condition.

Just a quick technical note: When they say Titanium is as strong as Steel, they refer to the tensile strength, NOT the hardness. Titanium is relatively soft compared to Steel and will scratch easily, unless it is protected with a coating like DLC (Diamond Like Carbon). The only benefit of using Titanium on a watch casing is its weight. Titanium is much lighter than steel and that's why it is used as a weight saving strong material in aeronautical applications.

More importantly, is the bike ok?

It IS Titanium. Anyone remember how scratched up the Titanium PowerBook G4 models got? I'd imagine it's the same. Won't make it less durable. Titanium is still a strong metal. It just may not remain pretty. I guess get a case if you're concerned?

Ha ha...my bike is made of tough stuff. It IS the most important question though.
Came out without a single mark on it, although I would have been hard-pressed to know, as it was also very brown at the end of the day. Washed up as good as the watch.
