Why oh why does the iPhone not have an exterior LED indicating that an email has come in? Is it just me who really really misses this feature? I hate having to unlock my phone every time to check for messages if I have missed the very faint sound of the email tone that has come in. I have my iPhone in a case and in my purse most of the time making it even harder to hear. Please Apple, :apple: ( if you ever see these boards) on your next iPhone refresh add an external LED indicator. PLEASE PLEASE!

Your request is legitimate and shall be fulfilled in June. Although in a different way.

Oh! I thought it was called Sunny, because that's kind of what you said in the other post. I'll check it once my phone restarts.

Oh! Haha, my bad. When you asked me I thought you said what weather icon was that and I said it was sunny, hehe.

Anyways, yes; external indicators would be a cool feature to add to the next iPhone. Adding flash to the camera is more of a priority in my opinion.

Couple o' thingz...

If it doesn't have what you want, don't buy it. Enough lost sales and Apple will add what you want so that you will buy it.

Vote with your wallet: it's the only thing that works.

Yeah, but the whole "vote with your wallet" thing doesn't work with Apple because Apple couldn't care less. If they made their products 6 billion different ways to suit 6 billion different people, then they wouldn't be Apple. Think "Mac OS X Basic", "Mac OS X Home Premium," and "Mac OS X Ultimate." Besides, an indicator light is a total non-necessity. My phone, the LG enV2, also lacks an indicator light. If I want to see if I have an email or a text, I reach into my pocket, pull it out, and press "OK" twice to unlock the screen. No biggie. :D

If only there were some way the OP could have researched the iPhone's functionality before purchase, like maybe a massive network of interconnected computers that could be "browsed" for information.

Apple should hurry up and invent that before somebody else does!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well, that is part of the problem.

Apple has their own list of "priorities" and of course, so does everyone else.

They will put in what they want, when they want.

For instance, you say the flash is more important.

I say, I don't care if they ever put a flash on the phone.

Who knows what Apple says. lol...

Rofl, thats true. Hope Apple comes through this summer and gives the consumers what they really want/need, not new ways to view in maps (StreetView, I've used this thing 2 times...) or calculator updates.

Alright, I got it now. Here's my lock screen. I have IntelliScreen, but it was starting to annoy me, so I turned it off for now.

Indicator LED i key. I never thought of it but yeah, at least something that blinks to let you know there is a text/voice/email waiting would be pretty essential.

So what if the iPhone doesn't have what I want, but the other phones have even less of what I want?

(even if they have that one feature).

Get the one that has the most of what you want, obviously.

This is how shopping works. Very rarely will you find something that does everything, so compromise by finding something that does most of what you want.

Applies for electronics, appliances, cars, clothing, etc.

Exactly. The other features offset the missing ones.

The most childish response, found almost exclusively on Apple-apologetic forums, is the, "Well you should've researched more to find out it was missing common features", or "Well then buy another phone (we only want happy fans here)".

Compare it to automobile forums. I once owned a (insert very expensive supercar name) back in the days of bulletin boards. New owners would come online and complain, "WTH, I just noticed that there's no glove box light !! " And we'd all laugh and say, "Yep, isn't that the most ridiculous missing item??" We didn't defend it, or say "You should've known".

Same thing with Subarus and their original idiotic placement of cupholders above the radio, subjecting it often to a soaking of spilled drinks. Everyone complained, eventually it was changed. No one ever said "So get another car".

I'll give it a try, but we have a pretty tight IT Policy on our devices restricting what can be changed. :)

I don't know what phone you have but on an 8320 you would go into profiles, scroll down to 'Advanced' and then select a profile (e.g. 'normal') and then set the notification you want for each type of message you want to control.

I hope that works for you.

Yeah, I know of those settings (I have a 8320), but it says for repeat notifications. I don't want it to blink at all. I already went to Options, KB/Screen and turned off my LED Coverage Indicator option but having to adjust the others seems pretty tedious. :(

Without unlocking the phone as you can see I can check if I have:

1-New Emails,Text,Missed Calls
2-Check the weather and even the condition (sunny, raining, snowing, etc)
3-Check my calendar for upcoming events

All without unlocking my iPhone, just simply pressing the home button. I can even have it vibrate a certain amount of times for each notification if I desire. Come on, why not just jailbreak it, you know you want to:cool:

Because this would make too much damn sense.

I love my jailbroken phone. No complaints from me, and if there is, most likely there's a way to address it.
