I'm glad that the people that enjoy there 17" enjoy them.
I was curious, thinking about purchasing and picking one up. I have a 15" its only a month old. The matte screen and extra 2" seem to catch me. Although it's nothing more then candy I really don't need it so I think I will hold back. Is there anything else that I am missing about the 17" from the 15" that I need to know besides the obvious?

the biggest deal breaker was the high-resolution screen and the battery. I could've really cared less if these parts were in the 15" or even the 13"

emt1: he used it correctly. Whats the problem?

I'm really happy with mine. Much happier than I was with my 13" MacBook and 15" MacBook Pro, both unibody. 17" is just right for me.

Same here, can't use a computer without at least 1920x1200 anymore.

Yes the high resolution screen might be some getting used to, but you can Ctrl-Zoom in and out for details if you sit far from the laptop. I used to get that when I get the 17" but got used to the small fonts.

See corrections below. Do people not pay attention to English in middle school / high school / college?

I was curious, thinking about purchasing and picking one up. I have a 15" IT'S (should be which is)

As far as screen size, isn't it 17" vs. 15.4"?
So it's really not 2" but only 1.6" difference.

I love my 17" also. I carry it almost everywhere with me too. I commute to school and I take the 17" rather then the 13" because of the battery life. Its not that much heavier at all, infact, it feels real nice on my back when I'm on my motorcycle.

I want a motorcyle. Badly. Everyone says no it's too dangerous. I love the Axio packs just ordered the sling bag. Anyways, to the original poster, I had only one problem with eye strain but haven't experienced it so much when I enlarged the font nicely, so I don't believe it was the glare as I originally did but the problem ended up being my eyesight. Aside from that I have had no problems at all. Great machine, fast, unique features not found on other notebooks and of course I believe the majority would agree, a beautiful machine. I will continue to stress this as others do (probably above and below) so if anyone else sees this post they will find that many agree. The negative posts here are not even half of the machines (I would assume far less). I have a friend who bought a 15" and another with a 17" and they seem to be just happy. Hope you eventually decide to purchase one they're great.

:)

I'm very happy with my MBP17. I bought it to replace my desktop so that I had portability between houses. I knew that this would not be my "coffee house system", but could be if needed in a pinch. This machine is exactly what I thought it would be. Did I mention I was very happy with my new spiffy machine? :)

17 is just to big for a note book hell 15 is even big 13 is almost perfect but the 11.1 inch sony vaio tz now that was a perfect notebook... the air is nice and all but i mean if your trying to make it portable and light cough cough netbook the key thing is to shrink the size. the air still had a 13 inch screen which still is rather large plus you lost out on a super drive and for the cost of the darn thing it would have been much mor practical to get the 13 macbook instead of the air its only like a pound heavier....but now with the recent news that they are now making a net book we will all watch the air (with all pun intended) evaporate into thin air once their net book comes out but also you run into the problem that net books are cheap and every mac ive bought besides the mini has been alot more than these net books made by asus and msi (which produces every mac product)

but 17 inches thats like carring around your imac around sometimes bigger isnt always better i see people with 17's all the time and they are just to big bulky and awkward they are so huge that they dont fit on a school desk or there so big they take up all the room no matter where you set them down plus carrying them around in a case that adds another 3 inches and going through a cramped subway with this big 20inch bag that your trying to baby and protect is just like impossible...

only time i see a 17 necessary is if your replacing a desktop

sorry thats just my thoughts

The 17" MBP is phenomenal when screen real estate is more valued than portability, such as for computer consultants that spend a lot of time coding and using punctuation. ;)

It is dangerous. My mom broke her leg and nearly died due to blood loss because of a motorcycle accident. She still has scars to this date from the surgery and stuff.

I only ride for fun, I don't use my bike for day to day stuff, but that's actually more and more of not being true since I've been commuting 70 miles a day on a sportbike to school.

The danger part really comes down to the idiot center located in between your eyes. If that part is in check, you'll be fine, otherwise, it can be very deadly.

I'm buying the 15" 2.66Ghz this summer and I know that 15" is already considered big... I can't imagine toting around 17" laptop...

Hopefully you won't be toting it around by hand...
When they're inside a case/bag/backpack/whatever, it's all the same.
The small weight difference is negligible.

My 17" isn't big at all. At first, it was HUGE. After a little while, a 6 1/2 lb laptop thats 17" is fairly light.

Unless the user is small, I don't think a 17" would be considered too big to carry around.

The 15" seems to small after using a 17", its like using a normal Macbook. Plus the 17" isnt any bigger than the 15", the extra 2" screen space is taken out of the massive fat 15" screen bezel. The actual 17" compter itself is basically the same size and ony a tiny bit heavier, thats why i always laugh when people say its too bulky and they're getting the 15". Usually the real reason is they cant afford the 17", but those people may as well get a normal 2.4 Macbook because then they can satisfy their excuses as its small, and its cheap as well.

Is it just me or the new 17" Macbook Pro is LESS bright than the 15"??? I looked around at Apple store and realized that this is the case..

Isn't the 17" Macbook Pro supposed to have a much superior screen??

check the size specifications on Apples site...

15-inch MacBook Pro

Height:
0.95 inch (2.41 cm)
Width:
14.35 inches (36.4 cm)
Depth:
9.82 inches (24.9 cm)
Weight:
5.5 pounds (2.49 kg)

17-inch MacBook Pro

Height:
0.98 inch (2.50 cm)
Width:
15.47 inches (39.3 cm)
Depth:
10.51 inches (26.7 cm)
Weight:
6.6 pounds (2.99 kg)

There is a difference. Its not the same size.

I hope for your sake that English isn't your first language.
