But if we are talking about page loading speeds, IOS 8.1 is still slower than iOS 7.1.2 in Sunspider 1.0.2

Anandtech's results in their iOS 8 review don't support that. They tested Sunspider, Kraken and Google Octane and found improvements on all of them when tested with an iPhone 5s and improvements in Kraken and Google Octane when tested with an iPad 3. That's hardly surprising when you consider that Apple's JS engine was updated for this release. The reverse for Sunspider on the iPad 3 could be because the engine now spends more time compiling code ahead of time which is more noticeable in the less realistic Sunspider benchmark.

It's also worth remembering that JS performance is really only a big deal for webapps and other non-traditional web pages. Most of the web (including this forum) is still plain HTML downloaded directly from a server. Network bandwidth has much more effect on page load time than JS performance in this simple case.

iPhone 5s is newer than iPhone 5 we are talking about here. Apple have always made older devices run slower by updates. IPhone 5 gets slower Sunspider score on iOS 8 than on iOS 7 I am 100% sure. And are you suggesting that people with iPad 3 should update to iOS 8? Good luck to those.

It's not about page loading speed. It's about clicking link in Safari and then waiting too see if iOS registers your click.

I'm not saying this is not happening to you, but it sure isn't happening to me. Tap -> page starts loading instantly. Do I need to make a video to prove it to you?

Bottom line, one guy's experience doesn't equal "everybody's experience". Some moderation would be in order.

Even if the iPhone 5 gets a worse Sunspider score under iOS 8 you can't then go on and state that the JavaScript performance is definitely worse. Kraken and Google Octane are widely acknowledged to be much better tests of real world JavaScript performance. iOS 8 improved these scores on both the 5s and iPad 3. Do you honestly think that the scores for the iPhone 5 wouldn't also be improved?

Battery life bites

Updated my 5 to 8.1 yesterday, and the battery life has tanked in a big way. I shoulda waited for 8.1.4.

My iphone 5S sunspider benchmark result is 430ms, I am running 7.1.2. Did it get worse in ios 8? Someone able to test?
