Is it okay to plug a powered usb device into a powered USB port?

I've got an external drive which has it's own power and have run out USB ports that are unpowered on my hub. Is it okay to plug the drive into a powered USB port even though it's already getting power from it's own ac plug?

I'd say check the owner's manual on the drive. However, in theory, it should be fine.
