Is it possible to save a location (GPS)?

If I go out fishing in a boat, and want to mark the reef on the iPhone for future fishing (and want to know which direction to go to get back to it), is that possible? I know they sell specialized boat GPSs, but was wondering if the iPhone could substitute.

Yes, go to the Maps app. Have it locate where you are. Then drop a pin on your area & save it.
