Would it be helpful to list the sales and TV shows separate from Mac rumors and Mac news?

I guess the site has just evolved over the years as things tend to do... I liked when the discourse was a bit more on the technical side in years past. Oh well, there's other places for that and MR is still very much a part of my morning read as it has been for nearly 20 years lol.

The sales notifications helps MacRumors pay the bills. They don’t bother me.

I’m not interested in the TV Shows. So, I just mostly skip reading the articles.

It’s not like it’s more than a quick swipe to skim past an article.

Macrumors namesake made sense when Apple was pretty much just Macs and Mac software. But it’s their brands now and would be pretty difficult to change to Apple Notifications. Nor do I think @arn thought the site would become so big with so many fanatical members.

I get it and most ppl do I'm sure. Just might be a neat little feature to have a button up top that went "straight to the scoop" or something like that for the hardware nerds looking for the latest rumblings. Just an idea...

Isn't that what the watched threads and forums is for?

Yeah. Apple has such a broad market now.

We had talked about being able to filter stuff out. But the volume isn’t usually overwhelming and the Featured block is meant to highlight the bigger news.

I'm not complaining, I'm on the front page multiple times a day every day... I guess I'll have to look into how to filter my front page news. I came for the iwalk scoop and have stayed for that bigger news for sure.

Some could argue that a website/forum that *only* focused on "Macintosh computers" would have a tough time surviving monetarily in today's climate.

To me... MacRumors is about all things Apple... with some extra industry news (other major players, 5G, etc)

I'm happy here!

Not everything on MR is meant to appeal to every reader. The same goes for printed newspapers and magazines. Ignore the stories you don't care about and focus on the ones that are of interest. Real simple.
Newspapers have sections, though. If you don't like Sports, you can just avoid that whole part of the newspaper. Can you imagine a newspaper if there was a news article followed by a sports story followed by a p******** article followed by a comic and a crossword puzzle?

I have been active on Macrumors since 2002 and it has never been strictly about the Mac. Before I actually became a member I would creep the forums and read about all the rumors about the return of the Newton that turned out to be the iPod. iphone.org that Apple owned years before the iPhone. I remember people posting concepts and mods etc. I feel that if this site focused strictly on the Mac, it would be a very boring place. Lets not forget the infamous elevator pics and PowerBook G5 rumors, I know they are Mac related but fun memories.

I really only visit 3 Apple sites:

*Apple

*This site

*Another “i” site that has “more” than just Apple stuff on it.

A few years ago as I recall, IOS and Mac were separated out. Then they were combined. No matter which way the editors divide up the news articles there undoubtedly will be those who like the format and those who don't. I don't see the editors ever pleasing everyone the way the news articles are divided and/or grouped.

True, but I do wish they brought back the "Page 2" and even the iOS blog and Mac blog. Simple things like Tim Cook attending a premier of Ted Lasso, or anything related to Hollywood Apple TV+ content shouldn't be a front page article, in my opinion.

One also doesn't need a separate article for WatchOS betas, tvOS betas, iOS/iPadOS betas. Lump those in one article (they all run iOS or it's derivatives) and keep macOS separate. If there's a MAJOR change in one of those betas, make a separate article to highlight said change. I've accidentally missed other important articles due to the front page being spammed with ATV+ articles and 5 separate beta announcement articles.

Is there a way to filter front-page topics?

Perhaps a "Disallow Beta" toggle?

:)

Couldn't agree more. The problem likely has to do with that each of those end up linking into a different section of the forum from the "article page".

I think it's important to post an article about beta releases, just not 4-5 different articles for every platform.

I don't believe it links to the separate subforum. All 4-5 articles are posted under the "News Discussion" subforum, and then a user might make a "iOS 15 Beta 3 - Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements or "tvOS 15 Beta 3 - Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements", etc.. but that's a forum user, not a MacRumors editor.

Likewise they do the same thing a day later when the public beta comes out. Just put a simple banner at the top of the homepage announcing it, not worthy of an article when it's an identical build to the developer release 24 hours prior.

They went in the wrong direction at precisely the wrong time. Apple is moving in more and more directions and decreasing the number of "sections" makes it hard to find news one cares about. If I recall, the rationale for moving everything to a single page was that the stuff on Page 2 was often overlooked by viewers. So now everything has all the eyeballs on it. The problem with that is if everything is important, then nothing is.

And the beta articles are completely ridiculous. Not only could they be combined into one post, or linked to an ever changing post, but each time they post them, they copy/paste all of the content about the changes in the new software in general, rather than focusing on what is different in that particular beta. So we see "iOS is getting new whatchamacallits" over and over and over.

In my opinion, it would be much better if MR linked to the original rumor information and post only what is new or known about the newly released beta.

I think too much front page space is being wasted with all the cut and paste articles.
