Is it really worth to buy unlock iphone 4 for T-mobile carrier?

The iPhone 4, unlocked, will not be able to use T-Mobile's 3G network (which costs the same as their EDGE network). EDGE is never as fast as 3G. You may be disappointed if ry to use a iPhone 4 on EDGE. But only you will know that for sure.

You have gotten some incorrect information from T-Mobile. And whether they get a 4G network or not this summer, the iPhone 4 won't work on it.

To clarify my previous post.

Again...
T-Mobile does not charge a higher price for 3G access.
T-Mobile does not differentiate between EDGE and 3G in their data plans.
It's just data access.

And as many others have stated...
T-Mobile's 3G frequency is not compatible with any iPhone chipset.

First of all last month I bought a galaxy s phone , and I add 3g network that beats ATT 3g speed. Edge is different from 3g network, and when its 3g it says next to the bars. T-mobile iphone in UK are all made for 3g network plus the hardware is the same as ATT version. I am buying from a friend who bought it from UK therefore its unlock phone. Like i said EDGE network is cheaper than 3g network as tmobile customer.

iPhones do not work on T-Mobile USA's 3G network. Period.

T-Mobile USA's EDGE speed is slower than AT&T's 3G speed. Period.

That is all.

It depends on if you can stand the snail's pace of EDGE. I had a TMobile myTouch 3g that I used on AT&T for a while. You don't even realize how much of a difference 3g makes until you don't have it anymore. Mail and web browsing takes forever!

Ok maybe the iphone does not support 3g network on t-mobile but other devices clearly works fast 3g speed. I am sure I am person that test many phones for internet speed on t-mobile smartphones, and none of them were slow on 3g network in usa. My last phone galaxy s was working perfect on 3g network plus I watch mobile tv and I can go on but I never I had issues on speed.

T-Mobile's web page says "Get 4G Speeds". It doesn't say that T-Mobile actually runs a 4G network, because they most certainly don't. What they have done is increased their 3G speeds -- in some cities -- so that their 3G network runs about as fast as a 4G network. But again, T-Mobile is NOT running a 4G network.

And EDGE is an option on T-Mobile. Matter of fact, the only in-building data coverage T-Mobile has where I work is EDGE. You walk outside of the building, and it switches to 3G. This is important for you, because an iPhone can only work on EDGE with T-Mobile. T-Mobile uses different frequencies for their 3G here in the US, and the iPhone does not support those different 3G frequencies. It does support T-Mobile's EDGE frequencies.

Neither T-Mobile nor AT&T sell specific "3G" or "EDGE" data plans. They simply sell "data plans", and you can access them via either 3G or EDGE, depending on your phone and their network. Regardless, it's the same price. You don't pay more for 3G, or pay less for EDGE.

If you don't notice the obvious speed difference between EDGE and 3G on T-Mobile, then your area must get horrible 3G speeds. :eek:
 
You're not going to get anything new from the subject of this thread in this community, and there is some pretty good advice here (and some bad). So with what you've gotten as feedback, it's time to use the facts and make up your mind. Whether it's better for you to unlock is up to you. Some people do it for money and other reasons, however, 3G is not EDGE and 3G is not slower than EDGE (the majority of the time).

Thank you for the information you gave me really and, the rest of the users that post great feedbacks. My area receives good 3g network for tmobile but ATT service is not available here and many people in my town chose unlock iphones like me. I really love iphone but unfortunately I have to pay full price to get the unlock versions. I talk to a tmobile customer service they said iphone 4 coming to tmobile is possible but they don't know when. I lough but a reliable information comes from apple spokesperson or Steve Jobs.

T-Mobile USA does not have a different price for 3G access over EDGE.
It's the same price. It's called a data package.
You must be confusing voice service with adding data service.
EDGE and 3G are both DATA.
You can run voice over 3G as well.

T-Mobile USA uses HSPA+ for their 3G service.
While in theory it's faster than AT&T's 3G, I can tell you for a fact that the backhaul network does not support the 21Mbps speed. More like 7Mbps and only in major metropolitan areas.

The Samsung Galaxy S does not work on T-Mobile USA's 3G network either. It lacks the 1700 Mhz 3G band.
It only supports HSUPA 900/1900/2100

The iPhone your friend got in the UK has the same 3G frequency support as the one sold here in the USA.
Still won't work on T-Mobile USA's 3G network.
