Hi guys! I'm wondering if it's safe to update, or should I hold off? I am on 8.0.2 on my 5s and I am having GREAT battery life and I DO NOT want that to go away! Lol! So, how is it?

Thank you so much!

Well I have an iPhone 5 and I said I was going to stay on 8.0.2 at least for a few weeks to see if the coast is clear. However I decided to update my phone through iTunes and perform the update to 8.1 and for me it's been painless.

I will say a few things, I can really tell 8.1 is much more polished, in fact all of the lag is gone and every thing opens and closes much much faster. When I was on 8.0.2 there was noticable lag when pressing the home button (like 1 or 2 seconds) and when I plugged in my phone with the Apple charger there was 2 or 3 secds lag before the battery icon showed up, However now since I upgraded to 8.1, all the lag is gone, battery icon shows immediately when plugged in and every thing works much smoother for me. I'm glad I updated.

Too early for battery results need to give it a few more days but I expect it to be the same, which was good for me.

" Is it safe to update to 8.1 on the 5s?"

Seems so. iOS 8.1 just feels faster and it fixed the bluetooth to the car.

Thank you so much for the replies!! I am updating as I write this! Lets hope it doesn't explode! Lol

I have a 5s, 8.1 is fine. I haven't noticed the battery life really. So it seems to be doing quite alright. In fact 8.0.2 was a little slow to be honest.

Are you experiencing any lag in the weather app? Going from list view to detailed view? Try that and see if it's 60 fps smooth. It drops frames on two of my 5S's.

Does anyone actually get a decent battery life from a 5S anyway? I charge twice a day and still barely gets me through. I don't expect anything from battery on iPhones, period.

YES!! I get GREAT battery life out of my 5s! It lasts all day and its at like 60 percent when I get home :)

The only weather app I use is The Weather Channel (no ads) and it works perfectly for me even on 8.1

What are you doing that you need two charges a day? I can easily stream music/browse safari for an hour in the morning on the train ride in to the office, browse safari for 45 minutes or so while on lunch, and then browse/stream music for the train ride home, and still have about 30% left when I actually get back home.

I'd go as far as to say it's almost as smooth at iOS 7. Almost. My 5S was lag city on 8.0.2.

I'm still on 7.1.2 as I have a habit of never doing any Apple updates until they get to X.1 :)

Is it better to update via iTunes? Not sure what the difference is and why people have reported in the past that their phone worked better when updating this way (as opposed to just doing a remote update). I don't quite get why there could be a difference in the phone afterwards simply depending on how the update was done...

Well I was trying to make a point that the fluidity and smoothness is still not good enough since they can't get their original app to work properly on all devices.

And before update was it good anyway?

I don't use games anymore or music because battery is gone by lunchtime. Here's a rough idea of my usage. Mainly emails and texts and Twitter browsing. Usually twitter is above the emails. But texting really drains my battery too.
