I originally wanted to wait for the release of the expected "mini" device, but I grew impatient and realised i wanted it sooner rather than later, and after all the full size retina screen is stunning and still highly practical, and i sometimes find my eyes begin to strain if i move from my amazing iPhone screen to my friend's iPad 2 screen because it just isn't quite crisp enough, I find it is absolutely fine with the new iPad, so I also didn't want to risk ending up with a mini with a screen that would hurt my eyes :)

So, i went ahead and ordered myself a white 16GB iPad 3 yesterday! Very excited!

I will likely dump my IP3 in favor of the mini.

Why?

Unless it is released with the same specs as the new iPad, the ONLY benefit is extra portability, and even then you have to sacrifice screen space. And the general consensus is that the mini will be a low cost version of the iPad, meaning it probably wont have the specs of the iPad 3... I came to realise this in my decision whether or not to buy a (speculated) mini upon the (speculated) announcement.

Part of me wants to get an iPad tomorrow (I like instant gratification) and the other part wants to wait until Sept 12th (don't want to buy one and then they announce an update). If they do anything, I doubt it will be a major update right now. I'll be camped out at an Apple Store the night before the new phone is released so if they are going to update the iPad's connector in the near future, I rather get that and have them the same. And then I think about it, would they just update the connector and nothing else? And then it goes to, we hear something new about the new iPhone everyday so if there were going to be updates to the iPad, we probably would have hear something by now.

Think I'm going in the right direction with these thoughts?

My god, some of you remind me of a ladies 10 and 12 year old kids.

They had their Christmas gift money (as well as actual presents) given to them on December 25th and they had their Birthdays 4 weeks later, when they would be given more money.

They wanted to buy something that they could afford, with their money, if they combined the Christmas and Birthday money.

But year after year they never got it, as they just had to spend the Christmas money within days of getting in, then look for something cheap to buy with their birthday money.

Never getting the item the REALLY wanted as they were just too impatient to wait 4 weeks.

You got it. The ip3 is too big and too heavy. The new mini is really going to prove to be the sweet spot.

Btw. There is no consensus on the mini's configuration as you state. The most likely config will be the exact same as the larger unit. The size is the only difference.
