How long have they been out are they getting old now wouldn't wanna buy one if it's gonna get outdated soon
Why not just buy what you need, when you need it?
Besides you probably know that most people keep their ipads for a while.

Usually I will get whatever the current model of an Apple product is. I don’t have a 12” iPad Pro yet and if they announce a new one in the next month or two I would be tempted to get the previous model at a reduced price except for one predictable issue. I always want the largest drive possible and Apple never makes that available when selling a previous model. One of the things that aggravates me about Apple is they always have a lower cost tier but for me there is always a compelling reason not to get it.

I'm waiting 'till the next one. I don't really care about speed boosts etc, but the screen features of the 9.7 would be nice, and I'd kick myself if I bought it now and they added them to its bigger brother in a couple of months!

I have a feeling that the 12.9 Pro won't be refreshed this year. I think it'll be updated in Spring of 2017. Apple has just too many products they will update in the fall.
I agree. I don't see an upgrade to the 12.9 Pro this year... especially when they released a 256GB model earlier this year.

For anyone considering getting a 12.9 Pro now, I'd recommend watching like a hawk for sales and jump on any deal that is $100-$175 off MSRP. That could be next week, or next month. But they have been going on pretty regularly.

I have both Pros, but I don't find the 9.7" Pro to be that much better even w/ the True Tone.

I have the 12.9". Assuming they release a 12.9 with the 2nd gen (or better) TouchID and True Tone, I'll be sorely tempted to upgrade.

The only feature that will move the needle into upgrading my iPP is the weight. I still like my iPP to weigh a tad bit lighter.

Just get it whenever you want or need it. If you keep on waiting, you just might be waiting forever. Once it's finally september another few months have passed and will probably make you wait until March since hey, that's only a few more months away.
Just bought the 12.9" pro myself yesterday and besides the software I honestly don't see any real urgent hardware issues that need ironing out. The machine is currently heavily under-utilized since iOS nor the available apps are leveraging the device's full potential.

I would argue the 12.9" would last longer thanks to its 4GB of RAM.
The 9.7" pro might have more bell and whistles, but its 2GB RAM might be a bottleneck moving forward.

I don't believe you can go wrong with a current gen 12.9. The updates will likely include the 9er's new screen and a slightly better camera. Neither of which I care about, to be honest.

The first gen 12.9 iPad Pro is most likely going to be the longevity model. (like the iPad 2, and Air 2)

The rule of thumb that I follow has been to buy the generation of device that first bumps up the RAM. (didn't apply to the 1st gen, bought that day-1) That would be the iPad 2 (512MB), iPad 4 (1GB), Air 2 (2GB), and 12.9 Pro (4GB). This rule has served me very well... allowing me to skip generations (save money) and continue to use all previous generations every day (including the iPad 1).

You would have not said this had you had the 9.7" iPad Pro which has only 2GB RAM !

It might be a bottle neck just next year when Apple puts in 4GB RAM in the next iteration next year !

I think we're past the point of having to wait on purchases mid-cycle. It's not like anyone here has a release schedule anyway. Go with your gut and live with it.

Somebody setting out to buy an iPad right now or in a month or two would be in a dilemma should he buy right now or should he be waiting for March-2017 which may not be too far from September-2016. But then again It could be likely that Apple may release the next iteration in Fall of 2017 as they did for the 12.9" iPad Pro and I am of course talking more from a 9.7" iPad Pro perspective.

Spring of 2017 for the 12.9" iPP ? and Fall for the 9.7" iPP ? is it ?

Agree I returned my 9.7 and saving for a 12 but version 2 of it.

Normal circumstances I would've done the same thing but I have seen so many good deals for every model of the current 12.9 inch that if I didn't already have my 12.9 inch I would buy it now and save multiple hundreds of dollars rather than pay full price for the 128 gig cellular through Verizon device payment that I have had since December and I don't think that the next GEN 12.9 will have a big enough change to warrant paying full price

I think they will move them all to the spring. I reallly don't see a 9.7 inch iPad Pro being launched in the fall only because it just came out not to long ago. If anything, it would be a 12.9 iPad Pro refresh.

You are talking 2016, I am talking Fall of 2017 when the 9.7" iPad Pro will get refreshed ! We all know this year there is not gonna be any new 9.7" iPad Pro.
