So bottom line, I can charge my iphone when the f. I want. Thank you!:)

OP just watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBKuOomv9Ko and then just use your device like normal.

The main point I will point out is that yes it is not good to let a battery go completely flat but modern devices have built in protection for that and that's why they turn off at low battery, when it says 0% the actual battery still has a little left in it but it turn off to protect itself.

Glad to see someone gets it. BatteryUniversity is good generic information but it's not applicable to these types of questions. Apple refers to "less than zero percent" as a "deep discharge state" (or something like that) and states the iDevice may take up to 20 minutes to power on after being put on a charger. So no, 0% on your phone is not discharged enough to damage the battery. The same as being on the charger at 100% does not put you at risk to overcharge the battery.

lol - I couldn't have said it better myself.

There is some science to helping a lithium based battery have a longer life span.

There is nothing new to the technology and even though it's in a iPhone the same physics and chemistry apply to all lithium based batteries.

I really wouldn't worry about it though. The difference it makes is to insignificant to worry about. Be better to charge your phone in cooler areas then worrying about how depleted it is.

Thanks that's a nice little chart.

I get a new phone yearly so I don't have to deal with crap batteries. Is it really that much worse the second year?

I buy a new battery at 12-18 months, and change my phone bi-annually. Occasionally I purchase a new phone mid-contract if something amazing comes out, or if I hate my current phone...

Not really. I've replaced the battery twice in my 4S since I got it Jan 12. I notice a better gain in battery by doing a full restore.
