FWIW there was an ATT rep that posted in one of the 100 threads on the same topic here that after 5 months of NON-USE the account is deactivated and the sim is no longer usable.

There are plenty of VZW Micro (and regular) 4g SIMs on eBay (I just ordered one). Not sure if they will work for PREPAID but I will know as soon as it shows up.

Was the PREPAID sim labeled "PREPAID" or just a regular looking SIM? If it was a regular SIM that would be good news.

I am just telling YOU what me experience has been in the past. I tend to believe very little of what any rep says. But you may do as you wish!:p

So far, no extended towers for me :(
ATT & TMO prepaid plans don't allow roaming off their own towers except under really rare conditions. I was under the understanding that VZW was the same. MOST of the time it isn't a problem but it could be depending on where you live or where you go. That definitely is one advantage to postpaid for those who need it. Haven't had that problem (with cell phone) in major metro areas.

Well, I'll let YOU know because I have an AT&T iPad sim but now have a VZW iPad. I'm going to cancel my account (because it's going to expire shortly anyway) and see if I can reactivate it either online, by phone or in-store. ;)

Not really interested in YOUR results, but other might want to have your results.:apple:

Iiiinteresting. Well, with the exception of USCC, they will have most of their roaming coverage on LTE in Rural America fairly soon, so that will help things. That's extended home, not roaming, for carriers on both sides of the agreement.

So I went ahead and canceled my auto renewing plan using the "delete account later" option. I am able to use the rest of my data or until the billing period ends, whichever comes first. I can also confirm that Verizon specifically gives you 5 months of inactivity before closing the account.

Is the 5 months of inactivity and we close your account same with an AT&T iPad????

Yes, I believe it is the same, the account is closed (it even says that on the iPad screen when you do a "cancel later" to suspend) however there was a question raised if they kill your sim card or not. One ATT rep on this board said yes, another poster said no.

Hmmm, if you go to www.att.com/ipad and click on "ADD MORE PREPAID DATA" right on the screen before you login it says "If you haven't RENEWED an existing service within 60 days, (not 5 months) sign in as a new customer" which seems to say they close it down after 60 days.

It appeared to just be a regular SIM.
Thanks, That's what I figured. I should have a VZW sim in a couple days from eBay ($5) and I'll see if I can activate it on the VZW iPad.

If it does work that will prove all the VZW store people who say you need a "special 4G prepaid sim" wrong and make it a lot easier to obtain a replacement.

My parents live in an US Cellular area so I rely on extended towers a lot of the time. This is very disappointing to me. I'm fixing to be moving to a Verizon area here soon, so is it worth me switching to a postpaid plan at this point?

Downeast Maine? That's the only one I know of that's USCC and not Verizon. There, AT&T has HSPA+. I think the extended coverage is 1xRTT, so that would not be worth it.

No, southeastern Oklahoma. AT&T is bad here as well.

I really hate Verizon. Just called to cancel the post paid plan. The bastards charged me a $35 activation fee. I know I should have fully read the receipt when I signed it, my bad. However, at NO TIME did the sales person tell me there would be a fee. She said that the $30 plan would show up on my next cell phone bill, no mention of the activation fee.

These were the clueless or sleazy (take your pick) bastards that said there was no $20 pre paid plan that one could sign up for directly from the iPad. this was the corporate Verizon store in Oxnarc, CA.

They did say new sim cards were free for those wondering.

I am considering canceling my wife's cellular plan with them...
