its a tricky question and not easy to anser .. just think if you really want to own everything only because you can afford it
for some its alright to own one car for the misses to do the shopping another car to do the school runs , a third to go on holiday with, another to show of to friends and a 5th for business use and a 6th for daily drive to work , another 7th for doing trackdays ...and all only to not have to decide which car would offer the ideal compromise

Yes. Mbp plus iPad is cool which is what I use. If you don't need portability to game wait for new iMac and sell your old one. The new iMacs should have a better gpu and desktop sandy bridge CPU. Or sell iMac and get a 17" Mbp which I find more reasonable to go with an air. Or sell air and get a 15" to go with iMac lol. But I prefer new iMac route for you.

Not really....each has their respective strengths/weaknesses.

Check out my sig. I don't feel weird by having 2 MBP's and 1 MBA.

My spouse has a 13" MBP and an 11" MBA...she loves the combo. The MBA goes practically everywhere she does, and she uses the MBP around the house.

I feel your pain and I really wanted to be a smart A$$ but, I realized like many that I own too many Apple products… If you want and can afford it then i say go for it.

Personally, I would buy some extra stocks or get into some sort of investment and then buy your toys off of the dividends and capital gains…

Just a thought!
:apple::eek::apple:

You think that's weird? I own a 17" MBP, 13" MBP, iPad and iPhone. Talk about under utilization :(

Yeah... I am in the same boat

Me - MBP 2011 13"
iPad 1
iPhone 4
iPhone 3gS (work)

Wife - MBA 2010
iPad 2
iPhone 4

House 2008 iMac - has not been turned on in months....

We do use all of them though. MBA is wife's primary and MBP is my primary when I am not working on my POS dell for the jobby job

iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad 2, MacBook Air:

Pick two, one person doesn't really need all four due to redundancy...

iPhone is assumed....

If you pick (home base/portable) MBP/MBA it means you want a more portable desktop replacement and a more powerful and complete portable solution.

Thats the equivalent of going mid/mid.

Alternately someone might want an iMac as their home base and an iPad 2 for maximum portability and in bed media consumption but doesn't need to do OSX computing tasks on the go.

That's the equivalent of going heavy/light

Wow!

Not to be judgmental (because I am hooked on shopping for tech gadgets too) but I am really shocked by how many apple products people on this site seem to have (not surprising I suppose)

To the OP, in my opinion I think if you get the MBP you will end up underusing one of your three machines. Or at least if I were you I know I wouldn't properly use both the iMac and the MBP, or the MBP and the MBA if I had all of them. But then again I don't game... If you really think you will have good regular use out of all three machines I say go ahead but don't buy a machine just because you can afford it and can't think of anything better to spend your money on. Saving is a good thing, and if you wait you might be able to get the redesigned MBPs in 2012 :D

just my 2 cents

Something's telling me he will buy the redesigned MBP anyway :D

To OP, you seem concerned about playing WoW on high settings but the maxed out 13"MBA plays it well (and quietly) with settings on good except for textures on high and water effects/shadows on low, as long as you've capped the framerate at 30 (which I'm not sure you'd notice while playing).
And I've read more than once that even high end iMacs have trouble with shadows and water effects, so that seems pretty good to me.

This is such a stupid thread I'll provide a stupid comment:

Anyone that needs to alleviate their "guilt" by asking permission from a bunch of strangers about how they should squander their money on more trinkets probably needs some counseling (or parenting).

Sorry, no offense to the stinking rich.

Why would you even feel guilty about buying another Mac if you can afford it without sacrificing anything?

Alright this is ridiculous, I want honest examples of how you use each of them on a regular basis other than setting them up next to each other to look nice

In this thread the people that do even weirder things tell the op that it is not weird. Surprise surprise.
It is weird that need not keep you from doing it there are lots of weird people around you are in good company.

It wouldn't be weird if you got a windows notebook for gaming but another MBP for this purpose is Apple fanboish weird. Amen

No its not. I've got a 13" MBP and if I weren't saving up for a $1,200 cellphone I'd get either a 13" Air or a 15" MBP.

You're currently saving your income on a $1,200 cell phone, this is not ridiculous? Will this cell phone potentially earn you $1,200?

Give some examples, if you feel you need something you should have some idea of why

Because... Have you seen the Samsung Galaxy S 2?! I like nice stuff :D

And no, of course it won't earn me $1,200. Just like a new HDTV or a new leather couch wouldn't earn you anything.

BTW at least I don't have a 3D TV and bluray player ;) I just have a regular CRT TV and $90 DVD player :D

Jogging is an inefficient activity.

It's much better "cardio" to lift weights and do total body exercises like squats and others while systematically increasing your workload incrementally every workout/week to program your body for transformation.

I have both but one definetly gets less use than the other. I use my desktop and mostly macbook pro but they are next to one another. the AIR is nice to have, bu rare use.

You said the magic word "Trackdays" !

I've maintained good self control and limited myself to just two cars, and a pickup truck.

For hauling a 2005 Chevy 1/2 ton.
My daily driver a 2010 BMW M3.
For fun & trackdays a 2007 F430.

Why should I defend what my family has to the likes of you?
