True that. The datapoint I am referring to is linked in the post I originally made:
https://github.com/devMEremenko/XcodeBenchmark/issues/509
made on xcode 15
It is not showing in the public benchmark results

Still tying to sell the other Mac Pro I purchased.

I love these machines, and got a brand new one, from Germany.

What the advertisement did not mention, despite claiming it to be unused, was a couple of things.
They had removed an afterburner card, which was fine, as it was not listed. But they forgot to engage the PCIe lock again. Looks like they replaced the original graphic card as well. It came with the 580x as advertised.
The original cloth had been removed, and it came wrapped in plastic. To what point I wonder?

It came with original keyboard (english), mouse and the power cord (EU) 🥰

Booting the machine, I had a 🤬 moment.
They had installed macOS Tahoe 26.1 in late December.

I spent 3 hours restoring the machine. Glad I've done the process many times, and that I already had the correct Apple Configurator installed on my mac mini m1.

Just curious, why did you go the recovery route, rather than booting to a USB installer with the OS version you want, then wiping and reinstalling the internal from it? I installed Ventura to my blank internal a coupe of days ago, it was about 40 mins all up.

Great question
Honestly I didn't think ahead when I logged in.
I created a test account, with the password test. Which leads to the root user account having that password.
Anyways, I really wanted to wipe everything, and restore it. So macOS Catalina was installed first, then upgraded to macOS Monterey

I am really pleased with the machine. It has the 4TB SSD, which was the main reason I choose it over an available 2TB version. And why I wish to sell my 1TB SSD machine.

A side note
It has been very easy to restore the Mac Pro back to macOS Catalina recently.
Turns out the only time I had to restore with the latest macOS (Sonoma), was when I upgraded my top spec machine to 8TB.

I can not believe it. The Mac Pro 12-core I purchased, that was sold as new, unused, with original packaging (box).
It was delivered in a box with a different serial number to the unit itself 😳
I have sent a message to the shop on ebay, asking why the numbers do not match.
So much for German precision, wow

Yes, these stats are easy to read via S.M.A.R.T. I don't remember the exact power-on count, but it was around 10 cycles and 4 TB of data written. Unfortunately, my new machine started getting very slow and eventually stopped booting into macOS. I'm currently dealing with a warranty claim with the seller. 🙄

I want to replace the video card in my Mac Pro 7.1, but I'm not sure if the card I'm looking for will fit in the case? (Phantom Gaming RX 6800 XT 16GB) Or only non-XT cards can be used with macPro7.1? Thank you in advance for your answers!

It will not fit. A 330mm long card.

You can check the card lengths if you look at techpowerup’s main page for the RX 6800 XT cards, at the bottom of the page

That's what I was afraid of 🙁
Then I'll only be able to use the plain cards without XT
Thanks for the answer!

Thanks!
I already found a GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6800 XT GAMING OC card
This will fit comfortably in the house
No problem. REAL shame that we can't update to newer cards.
I might even buy a spare 6900 just in case.
I know nothing about GPU drivers but I've alwas wondered why Nvidia/AMD couldn't just have written a driver without the help of Apple.

I don't care about Apple's dirty tactics. They're pulling support from machines that would still be going strong for years to come!
They're doing the same thing as Microsoft!
The game is about forcing people to buy new machines at gold prices after a few years.
Personally, I think the Mac Pro 7.1 will be my last Apple-branded computer.
They keep saying how much faster M-chip machines are
Yes, but these machines cannot be expanded!
When there are no more updates for Mac Pro 7.1, I will simply delete the MacOS system and switch to Linux.
With Linux, you won't have to replace your computer every 4 years, you won't have to worry about not having support for a video card!
I guess Nvidia doesn't write drivers for macOS because it wouldn't make much sense
Programs written for macOS are optimized for AMD! But I don't understand that
So the safe choice will be Linux and with that system I will be able to use 7.1 for many years to come

Supposedly have to be signed by Apple?

I don’t know 100% and probably don’t have the technical term correct. It’s a shame.

Unless a way around that is found then all Intel powered Mac Pros are dead in the very near future. Especially when the supply of GPUs dries up.

Do we end up with a booming industry of people repairing dead RX6800s and similar so they work again and selling them for gold-plated prices? Thats not right.

Unfortunately, the intel mac pro will be officially dead in a few years
But there are special versions of linux that work well with mac pro machines and thanks to linux, the intel mac pro will live on for a very long time!
Plus, there are different skins that can be used to make Linux look almost like MacOS!
I've heard that Linux is often much faster on Intel Macs than MacOS.
I'm not a fan of MacOS, it can be very buggy sometimes.

When support ends, I'll use Linux on the machine and there will be no restrictions, I can use any video card!
Unfortunately, even if there were an Nvidia driver, it wouldn't save Intel machines because all new programs are written to only work with M-series chips.
The only way is Linux!

This is an older video, for I think Plasma 5, but I rewatch it every now and then to remind myself that Linux is still a lifeboat that can be made to work in a way that captures the fundamental macOs things (especially the global menubar).

Exactly
Linux is constantly evolving and is increasingly supporting MacPro 7.1 machines!
For those of us who use Intel Mac Pros, Linux will really be a lifesaver.
I dare to risk that Linux will end the power of Windows too! Running games written for Windows is also increasingly supported on Linux, and some games even perform better on Linux.
I think Linux will be the most widely used operating system in a few years

Don't get the 7,1 unless you get it dirt cheap and you don't care about macOS support.

A lot of software we depend on is going to stop supporting Intel Macs soon, including Pro apps like Adobe (I give it a year)

It is easy enough to use Windows, the Adobe apps are there as well and they work fine, I do this sometimes.

I have no issues using Windows 11 Pro for Workstations. With my work I have to use both Windows and MacOS.

Also our users mostly have Windows machines of some sort so it's beneficial to be using the same OS at least part of the time.

You can't catch me using Windows ever for real work. I do really high end work and highly depend on macOS and stability and performance. Windows is not designer friendly. And nobody in my industry uses Windows for what we do.
