I bought my 3rd Mac Pro yesterday 🫣

The seller had dropped the price a few times, from $2000 to $1600 (in Norwegian kronor).
It was advertised as having an 8-core CPU, 384GB, 1TB, and a Radeon Pro 5700x.

To my surprise, it has two W5700x cards, a Sonnet Fusion Flex J3i cage, and a 2TB Sabrent NVMe card as well.

I asked the seller why he hadn't upgraded the CPU instead, as it would take advantage of the faster RAM. But he had purchased it from a bankruptcy auction, and never used it.
So I am sure he only looked at the specifications window, and never opened it to have a look inside.

To my great delight, it has 6 Kingston memory sticks
DRAM: HYNIX (C-DIE)
64GB 4Rx4 8G x 72-Bit PC4-2933
CL21 Load Reduced w/Parity 288-Pin DIMM

I have a spare 16-core, from the upgrade to 24-core.

The RAM is now installed in my top spec Mac Pro 🥰

The plan is to use this machine for gaming on Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC. With a NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super (16GB).

I will try to sell the two W5700x cards.

---
I will try to use a 2TB SSD kit from an iMac pro. Will report on that later, in another thread.

Hello
I want to replace the processor in my MacPro2019 but unfortunately I only found the QS version on Ebay
I want to replace the 8 core with a 16 core!
Where is it worth it or where can I even find such a processor, if possible, at a not too high price?

lucky! congrats on the purchase. in finland i saw 1 mac pro 2019 on the used market in the past year, not counting one on sale by a hardware refurbisher / reseller.

the ram alone is probably half the price of the machine with prices nowadays haha

If you are looking for a Mac Pro these days? I would consider a brand new, never used machine.

Mac-Store24 (Germany) has a few for sale, including one Rack model atm on ebay.
Or directly from their shop

thanks. sadly i don't need a Mac Pro for what I usually do, my needs are served by AS enough already. I just love workstations/enterprise hardware, especially when it looks cool (Mac Pros, Xserves, ProLiant, PowerEdges even, Lenovo P88 etc) :)

What price level are you looking for?
Stock in Europe

16-core. M version, support 1.5TB (2TB) RAM

Or a 28-core. Not the M version, but still supporting 1TB RAM

I haven't logged in for a while, I just clicked on the link but the processor has already been sold
I missed this already :(
The price they sold it for was a bit high for me
I don't know if it's even possible to get a non-QS version cheaply?
In any case, thanks for your help!

This morning, I gave in to temptation and bought an MPX5700 from Amazon. It's brand new and cost $515 at today's exchange rate. I currently have an MPX 5500 installed in the machine. Actually, I couldn't resist any longer when my card had a New Year's sale. Plus, the 9-installment payment option is another plus. And I even have a 30-day return policy. Do you think this was a good gamble?:)

To find a brand new MPX card is extremely rare. Even used cards are rare. The price is pretty good, I believe.
And there are two used cards in Europe for €729 each, on ebay.

The card has double the VRAM as your old card. And also doubles it's power, 10.44 TFLOPS vs 5.398 TFLOPS.

There's a 16 core 7,1 for sale 3 hours away from me for 2k eur with a W5700X and 192 gb ddr4. I am half seriously considering buying it (maybe can haggle it down to 1.5k) and then selling the ddr4, leaving maybe 64gb for myself.

But as I am writing this, i am realizing it's an unrealistic goal cause the market locally is small for ddr4 at this price and i don't have ebay reputation to sell something this expensive, unless i went through my friend who been doing stuff on ebay for a while. Still feels nice to dream about this

Will need to inquire what kind of RAM it has, probably in an indirect way. It's a computer shop so I am sure they are aware of current RAM pricing happenings.

I would buy it and retire your mac pro 2010.....the 7,1 is leagues better. The 7,1 even for the case, is a work of art! and if you need older OSX versions just download the free vmware fusion pro and run them in that. It would make good use of that extra memory even if you didn't sell it.......as they say in the evil dead "Join Us, Join Us!"

Prices for 2019 Mac Pro have dropped considerably in the UK on eBay.
There are quite a few 12 core machines for ~£900.

Once again, I don’t particularly need one, but am REALLY tempted….. 😆

iPowerResale had some nicely specified ones recently, also possible to get some pretty hefty GPUs with them too.

My second one I got from them was "A" condition and just about perfect condition. It has ran flawlessly.

Interestingly the W6800X Duo they fitted to it was a brand new one from Apple, the Fabric Link they included was also brand new. I already had another W6800X Duo.

Two is one, one is none. RAM prices just got stupid, so I'm looking for another MP 2019 to back this one up. Wouldn't mind dual Pro Vega II duos in this one. When memory prices get sane again, I'll look at 1.5TB - I don't have a NEED for that capacity today.

I was planning just for the sake of it having one that was maxed out. But ram prices are crazy. Wake me up when AI ends… ;)

Our dollar here is starting to get higher so I’m still watching. Our toy money in this country makes anything in USD painful to buy, then import duties even worse.

I would use that 7,1 as much as I use my 5,1 which is once a month, sometimes even less frequently. Not a sensible purchase in the slightest. It would be fun to own, but too many downsides sadly

was mostly having fun with that message.

saw this interesting listing for a base spec 8 core 7,1 from Czech Republic. 1000e and seems could be a faulty PSU? Price is obviously pretty bad, but probably could be haggled down.

I am personally not interested, and I am not sure if I am allowed to post ebay links. No mentions of whether it chimes or does anything else. Could be a fun gamble on a fixer upper if it was half the price. Case is not in a particularly good condition (not bent as far as I can see, but deep scratches on the side)

What do you guys think about this? Judging by the damage it could've been poorly shipped, damaging the internals

Hello
Since MacPro 5.1 does not support AVX, I thought about replacing it with 7.1
Apple will completely end support for Intel machines next year, I would like to ask for help from knowledgeable people
There will be third-party developments even though the system will no longer be supported ?
By this I mean the browser, VLC, etc., the complete cessation of application development for Intel-based Macs will occur?
I don't care about the demise of the Safari browser because I don't use it anymore due to its unstable operation.
But other browsers like Vivaldi will still be available?
Sorry if I'm confusing you, but it's not easy with Google Translate...
The point is, if I buy a 7.1 system now, how long will I be able to use it?
I definitely need a machine that can run Windows as well as MacOS
and the last such Mac is 7.1 if I remember correctly
The 7.1 MacPro can accept PC video cards without editing the firmware (RX 6xxx).
And the SSD is just as problematic as the 5.1 MacPro?
SSD no longer has the compatibility issues like 5.1?

Sorry for the bad wording.
Thank you in advance for any help.

What is your use case?

If it doesn’t specifically involve adding a bunch of cards to the 7.1, or requiring specific intel compatibility with old software, you’re better off buying something Apple Silicon.

Unless you’re planning on buying a high end GPU to go with it, or spending up BIG on a 7,1 to get the apple 6900XT or such, you’ll get comparable GPU performance out of something like an M3 Ultra Mac Studio.

You’ll get better performance than the lower tier rx580 out of an M3 Pro or M4 Pro, possibly even M4/M5 base.

What do you need WIndows for? Windows 11 runs business style apps really well inside of a Parallels Windows 11 on ARM virtual machine, including x86 Windows apps via Win11’s inbuilt equivalent of Rosetta.

7,1 pricing, outside of some specific niche requirements where i am still just isn’t worth it for the short term usability if you have any desire for performance or OS upgrades.

edit:

i see you already bought it. good luck! if you run into too many issues, i’d be getting out while the prices are still decent. if you in any way care about performance and don’t need > 64 GB of RAM you’d likely get far better performance out of a recent mac studio, and have continued software support.

Yes, I already bought it and I haven't had any problems with it so far
This will be my last Apple-made machine
I don't want a machine that doesn't have an Intel processor
Unfortunately, Apple will continue to trick people with the newer machines! After 4 years, you will have to replace your machine again because either the support will expire or they will come up with a new processor to release a machine...
Mac Studio is not expandable anyway so I shouldn't
I'll use 7.1 with MacOS for as long as I can and then switch to Linux!
I'm currently using an rx6600xt video card and so far it's been more than enough for everything
then in the future I'd like to upgrade to a 6800 or 6900 and change the 8-core processor to a 16-core one and that's it
There's not much point in spending more on it
I was lucky because I found a machine that didn't have a single scratch and was sold with the factory box
The machine also has an afterburner card but since I don't use it, I took it out of the machine
Unfortunately the factory MPX card was very weak (580x)
and the processor was only 8 cores but the price wasn't too much either, around 1419 euros

I have seen it as well. Personally, it looks like a pretty bad deal.
Check the photo with the RAM slots, the lower is not properly attached.
The specs are crap. And finding better parts will be very hard.

You can find brand new from Germany with the original packaging now. Far better deals to be had there

There where a few sub-£900 MacPro’s on UK eBay before Xmas (gone now, or need relisting).
Looking today, prices seem to be rising again….

There a some 12 core ‘fully working’ ones though for about £1100, with minor wear.

There seem to be a few ‘opened never used’ ones also (whether true or not…. ;) )

yeah 1000e is a big ask which is why I said at half the price :D

I haven't been paying close attention to eu prices but it seems like the german listings for 7,1 been climbing a little bit in price
