The clarity in the screen really makes a difference. Just shell out the extra bucks and get something that you'll keep a long time. Get the 3. The new iPad. Just buy a refurb from apple. The screen is night and day, and yea I've owned them all so this is first hand experience.

If there were a significant spec difference between the two, aside from the cameras and screen, I would agree with you, but there isn't really.

Power-wise, the iPad 2 will last as long as the iPad 3. So aside from resolution there won't be any apps that the 3 can handle that the iPad 2can't.

The smart money says get a used 2, find out if you like it, and if so get the 4. If you find yourself using the 2 enough to keep it, but not a huge amount then the 3 would have been wasted on you.

Really appreciate all the advice thanks.

Think i am going to wait and see what happens in october with the mini or get a 3rd gen if i want the bigger screen.

Yes it is worth to get ipad 1 for general use. That is what I did when I first bought an iPad 1 to see if I like it or not...I love it very much then I am ready to upgrade an ipad I sold it for extra money. :apple:

I understand everybody's needs are different but is there anyone who only uses an iPad for web, email and games and is glad they got one?
^ This. Worth is always highly subjective, regardless of topic. My wife's glad she got her iPad 2. As stated earlier, if you're wondering then take one for a spin. First hand experience is the best way to answer your question. Polling others really doesn't mean much unless you can find those with identical needs/wants/preferences/etc.

i currently have an ipad 1 and can tell you that you WILL use it far more then you think you will, and you will take it with you more then you expect. i too have a macbook but find it more convenient to use my ipad for some things. as for getting an ipad 1 i would discourage it, i would advise getting an ipad 2 and not spending the extra money on the latest ipad for a minimal upgrade. my understanding is that the ipad 1 will not be part of the upcoming iOS upgrade.

Maybe get an 11" MacBook Air. If you don't want the 2012 ones, you can get a refurb 2011. It's just as handy as an iPad but you've the added bonuses of a keyboard and OSX. Think about it. :apple:
