Is it worth it to buy Asurion's 3-year extended warranty
with accidental protection for $33.99? (ATV4 32gb)

They claim "drops and spills" are covered, but when I
emailed them to ask about the Siri remote, they were
somewhat vague. I get the feeling from their email
that if I drop the Siri remote and crack it, then it's not
covered... because it's a "cosmetic" damage. (but if I
drop the ATV4 itself in the toilet, then it's definitely
covered)

I have a 10% 1-use coupon, so it'll knock $3.40 off.

IMHO the only warranty worth purchasing is if it includes lost or stolen.

ok, I gotta ask... who has ever had their Apple TV stolen? Drunken Canadian ice hockey player who thought it was a hockey puck? As for loss... how does one lose the Apple TV? Do people take it with them on the subway and lose them?

Ordinarily I would say no, but the remote is made out of glass and many have already broken theirs, so I do plan to get the accidental protection. The replacement remotes are $80.00 so you do the math.

If you drop your Apple TV 4 in the toilet, I really expect a post where you explain how this happened accidentally.

That's the kind of insurance that I'd love to sell.

It's only 7AM on a Sunday and I still have a big hangover from partying until 5AM. So what you're saying is that is that if I have just one remote that gets damaged, the warranty more than pays for itself because its accidental coverage will replace the remote which is made of glass and have been broken by some users already?

that's actually an easy one.

I have a small 15" al-cheapo LCD TV that's installed on a swivel mount in my bathroom. Its between the sink and the toilet, so I can swivel it and view it while sitting on the toilet or soaking in the bathtub. My old ATV3 is attached to the swivel arm by thee 10" plastic zip ties. If I swivel a bit too far and knock it off, it will either end up in the trash can between the sink and the toilet... or end up in the toilet water. :( I expect to replace that ATV3 with the ATV4 as soon as the eBay auction for that ATV3 ends in a few days.(current bid is $27, which is not bad, considering I only paid $59 at B&H Photo a few months ago)

now that I think about it, the other old ATV3 connected to my kitchen TV is also in a somewhat precarious position It sits in a little bookshelf under the cabinet which is next to the kitchen sink. (the TV is mounted on the wall above sink) Yup, that one is also on eBay... and will be replaced with the ATV4. (although this auction is only at $23 right now)

It all depends on where you buy it. Most stores will not cover for cosmetic damage, but some, like MicroCenter do cover it. Theirs cover everything except fire or theft. IMO since the ATV4 remote is so unique it would be wise to get this coverage IF it covers cosmetic damage.

if someone drops the Siri remote and cracks the touchpad glass, the remote is essentially useless, which makes the ATV4 nearly useless. Shouldn't that be covered as accidentally damage and not just cosmetic? :)
