I played with one in the store, so with that caveat in mind: heck yes. it's worth it.

Screen is better. Not only just bigger.
Faster.
Way lighter.
Camera is noticeably better.
Thinner. I bet that with a case, like the incase snap, the iphone 5 will be the same thickness as a naked iphone 4/4s.

This is a great phone and once people use it, it's going to annihilate sales records. People are still going to buy Android, but the discrepancy will remain when the carriers are out of the equation. I bet that apple sells 10 x as many unlocked iphone 5s compared to unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3s that Samsung sells.

If I was a 4S user I wouldn't get the 5. But I've gone from 4 to 5 and love it. You don't see much of a reason to upgrade if you do it every year.

keep in mind that you may be feling the ios upgrade, ios6 is a big upgrade from 5. the half an inch on the screen, I feel is nullified by the letterboxing of apps that arent configured to work with it...

No the bigger screen is a huge deal. It's now as big as is usable. The LTE is an amzing touch. The form factor (thinner lighter) is nice. The asthetics are also amazing. All the little improvements are also a plus like the better speakerphone sound, the better color saturation. Also the new connector is much nicer to use etc etc

Um...
4 --> 4s: faster processor, Siri, better camera, new antenna design
4s --> 5: faster processor, faster graphics, 2x RAM, better camera, HD front camera, new antenna design, new form factor, thinner, lighter, bigger screen, and oh yeah, LTE.

I absolutely do not understand the repeated protestations on this forum that the 5 is a "minor upgrade." With the possible exception of 3GS --> 4, it's the biggest upgrade in the iPhone's history. And I say this as a 4s owner who does not yet have a 5 (but really wants one).

Now all of that said, whether it's worth the upgrade from a 4s is a personal decision depending on use and finances. For me, the bigger screen and lte alone do it, easily. But the 4s is a great phone and runs really well on iOS 6, so I can easily see it not being worth the cost for some people.

the 4s also........had better network radio speeds, 7x the graphics over the 4 in addition to what you listed

though with my playing around with the 5, it is not that noticeably faster than the 4s from my brief tests on it. Certainly not enough for me to spend 650 for or extending my contract

U shouldn't need help deciding if its a good idea to upgrade only you will know if its worth it to you. I loved my 4s she was good to me now she will be good to someone else while I play with her bigger n lighter sister my iPhone 5 lol. Just do it n don't think about it. Or wait till the iPhone 5S.

Question about the iPhone 5 speaker

For those lucky bastards that already have it! (Have to wait for October in mx) giving the fact that this phone is thinner, does the speaker sound as loud as the 4S? or as low as the iPhone 4?

I'm still waiting to receive mine. But if I had a 4S in good shape, I would not upgrade to the 5 unless I was in an LTE area and felt strongly enough about that feature to upgrade.

If you have enough spare money that you want to spend, it might be different. I have the savings for the phone, but I've been trying to build up savings in this economy and for future retirement. So I've cut back to every 2 years. If my phone holds up, I'm going to try for 3.

I thought the camera on the 5 used the exact hardware as the 4S, is that not the case?

The had me at LTE

I upgraded from the 4S, and I love the iPhone 5. (I'm getting $400 for my 4S, so my upgrade cost of $449 total is nicely offset). I don't want to put it down because I love how it feels in my hand. The lightness and thinness are terrific as is the build quality. The extra screen real estate is wonderful for everything. I'm looking forward to all (most) apps being updated for the 4" screen.

LTE is the killer feature for me. On the 4S, the 3G speed in my office was almost unusable. On the iPhone 5, I'm getting around 14mb down and 6mb up. Around town, I get anywhere from 15mb to 40mb down and 20mb to 25mb up. I'm getting battery life on par with the 4S which I find to be good.

I got the black model, and I love how much more sleek it looks to me.

I'm very happy with the purchase.

I will never understand how impatient people are. Give the developers a freekin minute to update their software. I mean come on, the iPhone has been out for what? 100 hours?
