It really depends on who you are. If you're the tech geek (like 99% of the people on this forum) who likes to have the latest and greatest, then obviously you should wait for the latest and greatest (aka upcoming iPhone 5).

On the other hand, if you're a more practical person, the iPhone 4 is a really good choice. It's outselling any and every phone on the market. Even the latest and greatest Android 4G phone (Thunderbolt) is being beaten in terms of sales by the almost 1 year old iPhone 4. If you need a specific feature that is very/most likely to appear in iPhone 5 (need is not a want btw) then wait for iPhone 5. Otherwise, there's not much reason waiting for something that you don't need if the current generation of hardware satisfies your needs.

I think you should go for it now, at least it's way cheaper now, then when I took it over 7 months ago. :)
You can always sell it around x-mas and buy yourself a shiny, new iPhone 5, if you're into having the latest and the greatest.

I needed to buy a new phone as my 3G S died almost three weeks ago. I originally wanted to wait for the iPhone 5-but that wasn't to be.
Now that I've had my iPhone 4 for almost four three weeks, I must say I really love this phone.
I say if you need the phone buy it.
Life is too short to always wait for the cutting edge in technology. There's always something new on the horizon waiting to replace it.
By the way I have never encountered any problems with calls being dropped. I have AT&T as my provider.

The one overwhelming reasong NOT to get the 4, is it's poorly designed antenna.

Now the word is Apple is FINALLY correcting the Antenna issue that they were in complete denial about during the Antennagate days, when they pointed the finger saying "they all do it".

That was complete BS, I know, because at any one time, I ALWAYS have more than one activated phone on AT&T. I can always use an Android, or BB, and make clear calls for as long as I want without dropping.

However, if I'm on the iPhone 4, it drops calls, which is NOT AT&T, but Apples use of a less than compatible chip for the AT&T Network. A documented , but little publicized fact. Apple has gone out of their way to conceal this.

I'm NOT BASHING Apple, I really like them.

I've had more than 15 of their laptops over a decade and No one wants a good iPhone more than I do.

I want one that will be as good of a phone, as it is a handheld computer.

I want to be able to use an iPhone as my primary smartphone, but cannot until they put a proper phone in it.

I've had nothing but great service from AT&T.

So I'm not the only one getting a 2G -> 4 upgrade! I've had the 1st gen. iPhone since 2007! and it never ever failed me. it's been been through rough times, and the back is still almost new :D and of course I'm still on iOS 3.1.3

so switching from that to an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.2 will be a huge leap! I'll be making my switch as soon as WWDC '11 is over, just to see what Apple has planned for iOS 5 and iPhone 5...

45 Days LEFT!!

Nope, not the only one:) I just ordered an iPhone 4 yesterday to upgrade from my 2G. I am really going to miss that phone, it is by far the best quality hardware I have seen and I don't think the iPhone 4 is going to be quite as durable.

The 4 is worth it for the camera and batt life among other things over the 3GS. I don't have any problems withreception, but I use a case.

Wait for the 5, you'll be kicking youself if you don't. The A5 alone should be reason enough.

I too still have my 3GS and I've had it since it first came out.
It has been a very good and stable phone, no issues.

I almost bought a 4 last Christmas when there were crazy deals going
for them. But honestly the antenna-gate scared me. I have a few friends
with the 4 that got them when they came out. To this day they still shake their heads in frustration when I ask them if they are still having problems with reception. To be honest I think Apple lost quite a few people with that whole debacle.

With my solid 3GS I'm going to wait till the rumoredSeptember release date for iPhone 4GS/5. I'm just hoping Apple, for their sake and mine, puts the antenna deal to rest with a antenna redesign.

On a side note iOS needs a massive overhaul and I'm hoping that comes with iOS 5. From a UI standpoint the design is stuck in 2007 and needs to be more interactive. Apple needs to "innovate" again in this area while still keeping the usability as simple as possible. The stacked square baby-ish icon look and no real useful homepage with notifications is a major week point in iOS right now.

Upgraded from 3GS a month ago to the 4 despite all the rumors that come out every spring and I am completely satisfied and won't regret it when the next version is released. Be happy now :)

If buying a current gen iPhone is wrong... I don't even wanna know what's right...

That's so weird that you made a post saying that you were switching from a PC to a Mac just 14 days ago.

Why do you feel the need to post so many lies? You got called out in the other thread for lying and I'll do it here too.

We get it, you don't like Apple. Go somewhere else then. Don't feed me a story about how you really do like Apple and are a shareholder (why does almost every person who only posts negative things about Apple seem to have stock?), I don't buy it.

My HTC Desire isn't acting much better than iPhone 4 when I'm holding it "wrong". Honestly I never even had that issue in real life situation and I use my phone quite a lot.

I know I'm not upgrading to the 5. Just no need to... And if 5 comes out as ugly as that mockup we seen here lately then sure as hell I'm buying another 4 just to have in case my current one dies.

Just make the move & get the 4. Prior to the 5 being released, sell your iPhone 4 and use the remaining money to purchase a 5.
