I believe it’s safe to say by now that MagSafe for iPhone hasn’t been a flying success that Apple had hoped.

Do we believe that Apple will stick with it in its current design for iPhone releases to come?

MagSafe is here to stay. I use it all the time. Ever since I got the 13 pro Max on launch day, I have never even used the lightning port at all.

I couldn't care less about charging it that way, but I find the magnets are a good idea for mounting it or attaching things to it. Don't know if iPhones are lacking in the accessory department, but I wish there were more iPad cases/stands that use the magnets and Smart Connector. I want a keyboard case that isn't Apple's $400 Magic Keyboard and doesn't deal with bluetooth.

It'll stick for a long time. All new standards take time for accessories to be made for them.

Wireless charging is not going away, and Magsafe is Apple's branding for it. I'm predicting the next generation magsafe will include some sort of data connectivity with the aim of making a portless iPhone.

If you aren’t getting value out of Magsafe, you probably don’t have the accessory placement and positioning right.

Dealing with a lighting connector is an unnecessary pain at this point.

I'd worry more about Apple abandoning the charging port (which is instrumental for charging via power bank) than getting rid of MagSafe.
Apple has chosen to wait for better "wireless" charging than ditching it altogether.

It feels like an overengineered solution to the desire to have all accessories work with the iPhone regardless of whether it has a case on or not. I get the allure of having a whole array of accessories you can clip on and off as desired. For example, you use the magsafe wallet when outside, slap on the khadas tea amplifier when listening to music, and mount it on the Belkin stand when charging at night, and it all works regardless of whether you are using it with a (magsafe-supported) case or going case-less.

i use Magsafe to charge my 12 Pro Max. and ive always wanted to use a Magsafe car holder but the roads in Indonesia is bad and im afraid the phone would just fly off the Magsafe Holder 🤣

I think it’s a cool thing to have but I don’t think it is being used by everyone due to the fact it charges very slowly. However, Apple’s ultimate goal is to make the iPhone portless. It’s just we are one step further to a portless iPhone.

15W is not ‘very slowly’ - it’s plenty.

Love MagSafe, I use it everyday and I think it’s here to stay.

I’ve never used MagSafe on my iPhone and I don’t think a single person I know with an iPhone 12 onwards has bothered with it. It’s a nice technology but I think the cost of the Apple charger put a lot of people off. Also, wireless charging has been out on iPhones for a few years now and undoubtedly those who have embraced wireless charging aren’t in a hurry to replace these chargers with something 5 or 6 times the price from Apple. I still think a huge amount of people still plug chargers in too.

I’ll be honest though MagSafe doesn’t really offer any benefits for my usage.

I can’t deal with the cable anymore now that I have and use the wireless charging… and just because the Apple devices have MagSafe compatibility now, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t also have the ability to glean a charge from a Qi wireless charging device; thats if it can fit on the charging pad of a Qi charger… the difference with MagSafe is with the magnets holding the device in place, such as in a vertical position… (think car charger) So, your phone not only stays securely on the charging, it can also receive up to 15W of power, which significantly speeds up the charging time… not to leave without mention they are now incorporating the MagSafe charging into the power cables of other devices… no pins or posts… just magnet holding the power cable into the device.

I think its wonderful, particularly with regard to the phone… no wandering cables, or lifting the flap on cases (in my case covering the lighting port… it really is much more convenient than a cable IMHO.

It’s a good option to have if you use it . I charge overnight so fast charging is pointless for my uses. The magnets for car chargers I can see as being useful but my dock works pretty well. My wife has a pop socket on the back of her iPhone so that renders MagSafe redundant for her.

I personally don’t think Apple ever expected MagSafe to be adopted by a majority of their users otherwise they’d have priced it competitively. It was an innovative feature to help with appeal to those that wanted it.

Just because you don’t use it doesn’t mean it’s not successful lol. Far as I can tell it’s been pretty successful. I see people use it all the time, whether with Apple accessories or third party ones. I love it and if you don’t that’s fine, don’t use it.

based on what. exactly?

while me personally don't use it, plenty folks here are reporting using it. The advantage of MagSafe is that it aligns the coils perfectly and thus losses are as minimal as can be (still high imho with at least 5%). Pricing is ridiculous but people are happily paying $50+ for the convenience of wireless charging, to each their own.
Magsafe is here to stay.
