This is an oft repeated comment here, and I don't necessarily deny the validity of it. But before I make my own comment, I will just say this about batteries.

I've had to put my phones on charge each night since 2009 when I got my first smartphone. Nothing has changed, this is a normal and regular thing. But I think people want the battery life they got with old flip phones while still doing what they do when using a smartphone and that just is not going to happen. Battery tech has improved, but not by that much. But a lot of people just don't want to accept that for some reason.

Finally, here is my comment regarding thinner and lighter iPhones. Apple keeps breaking records when they sell thinner and lighter iPhones every year. This is a minority (but a vocal one) opinion. Everyone else that is buying the lighter, thinner phones every year (and more of it) disagrees with this opinion.

I am not saying your opinion is wrong, I am just pointing out that Apple's sales do not reflect any recognition of it.

Actually I would like a phone that goes on one charge for the entire day with something to spare. Which I've never been able to achieve except with the 6 Plus. And except when I bought android extended batteries (with every phone...now that is vanishing). Sure I can baby the phone and not use it and that will do the trick but that's not what I mean. Why not design phones with two battery sizes. How difficult could that be. Make one wider and it won't have to be much. If you are holding an oversized playing card in your hand what difference is it if it's a candy bar the same vertical and horizontal dimensions but just wider?

I don't understand the angst. Just get the iPhone 6s. I have a feeling that Apple would be against the ropes (remember 1990s?) if they were still offering only the iPhone 4. Get it because you want it. Believe me, the carriers will bend over backwards to get you into one if you stand up for yourself. I have a feeling that after a bit, you'll love it as much as you do your iPhone 4 (Still, the best looking smartphone extant, in my eyes). You'll be able to do all that you do with the iPhone 4, plus, more...a lot quicker and smoother. That's okay. It's a smartphone and if you stop and think, smartphones are amazing things that allow you to do, and, gain access to, many amazing things.

The 6s is a little ugly, but, get both a slim, pretty case, and, a hardcore, rugged case. There are literally hundreds of cases available for any and all tastes and situations, plus, some of the thin, clear ones allow the iPhone "beauty" to shine through. If you don't like it, sell it, go back to your iPhone 4 (still a wonderful, if very dated device), or, get a Window's Mobile if you're feening on being an "underdog" (Lumia 640 is a sweet, inexpensive Windows device)

It just sounds as though you're wanting to upgrade, but, are having a hard time justifying an upgrade, just need to continue to save up more scratch to do so, or, are suffering from the "I'll take a free $10000 bill, but, only if it is a used $10000 bill" syndrome. *wink, wink!*

In the developed world, smartphones have become a commodity, but, that doesn't make them any less amazing!

People already complain about how many different models there are just because there are four carriers. Double that with a model that features a larger battery size?

Sure, not hard to design, but serious consequences on the assembly line at Foxconn.

Again, I don't necessarily disagree with you but I don't believe I baby my phone either. And my phone has plenty of juice to spare when I plug it in at night.

But realistically, if someone wants to stream video for hours on end, download files, talk, text, email and social stuff for hours then they cannot reasonably expect to get a full day.

Again I am not saying that is how you or anyone specific uses their phone, I am just using it as an example. Battery life depends on how you use the phone. We should not expect to have to baby our phones (as you say) but we also shouldn't expect a massive amount of battery life left after having used the phone hard for hours.

Your iPhone is capable of sending messages to someone on the other side of the planet almost instantaneously. That alone is amazing! :D

I know, right? I always say, we're so spoiled. Getting upset about screen resolutions and Gigabytes of RAM, but we carry devices in our pocket that grant us the ability to communicate with anyone at the speed of light, and access practically all of human knowledge anywhere and anytime, store hours of entertainment, and so much more! This stuff was straight up science fiction just a few decades ago!

Sometimes I catch myself annoyed that my 5c isn't quite up to par with newer iPhones I've had, but then I remind myself of what it's already capable of doing and I realize that I shouldn't take it quite for granted. I agree with you 100%!

Sometimes you are not in control over charging frequency. If you don't have access to wi-fi during the day and you don't have the luxury of strong cell towers nearby, your phone is going to be tapped. There are plenty of threads around in many forums, apple and android, of battery life. It's an issue, if it wasn't we wouldn't see a new thread on it the first day a phone is released. Right now in the Note 5 forum (Android Central) it's still on the first page and it is 119 pages long.

Considering the pretty iPhone hidden in an ugly case issue--first, eyoungren, thanks for your response. Unfortunately, I'm not that careful. :). Even with a case I still managed to shatter my iPhone 6 Plus last year. (However, Im a little curious about some of the clear wrapping available that allegedly guarantees the phone.) And my iPad--ha! I mostly use it as an ebook reader; I cracked my previous version. With my Air 2, I have a slim case; I might try to go care free with my iPhone on a trial basis (especially now that the Watch is in the picture), but I don't dare to go sans case on the iPad.

If you aren't feeling pressured to upgrade because the device still works fine, don't upgrade. However, the time will come, as you said.

When that happens, you can turn off LTE and use 3G just like before. You can turn off Siri and conserve data, just like before. Although I've never had Siri really take that much, but I'm on a 12GB shared plan so my perception of "a little amount" may be way different than your perception of "a little amount". I don't see why you'd want to do either of those things but to each his own. The main reason you dig through data faster on LTE is because it's faster, so you use the phone more since it's at a more tolerable speed. That's how I see it anyway.

I pay $46.38 per month (after all taxes/fees) and get 5GB of data with Straight Talk.

in Quebec, 60$ gives you around 1GB/month. If you want the 6 or 6S you need to have a plan starting at 85$ (unless you buy the device full price upfront)..
sad but true..

It's sporting a retina display, it easily fits in my pocket, in its defender case - and I just had the bum headphone jack fixed for $50.

Also, it doesn't massively consume data. My bill is $45/mo.

So I experimented with an iPhone 6s. Apparently Otterbox cornered the market now so they don't even try to make good Defender cases anymore, at least according to reviews. It was perty and gold - but then it went into its required case and... what's the point?

<snip>

Thanks. Just disappointed, having continued to WAIT and WAIT for a NEW iPhone that's truly as "AMAZING" as my iPhone 4 was. RETINA display - that was HUGE. Ah well...

Read this with interest after reading about the 6c this week. I have a 4s and love it. At over 4 years old, it's starting to get a little flakey and I'm still on iOS 7.

I do not like the size of the 6 at all! I do like the size of the 5s though and have been thinking about one of those for the past year.

Any thoughts on what the 6c will cost? I got my 4s when Verizon was still offering the new every 2 discounts, so I think it was $264 out the door (plus case and extra cables of course - which I'll need to do again).

The thought of a $50 upgrade to the 5s is appealing. $300 is not. I would hope the 5s would last 2-3 more years with no issues and then the 6c would be less (if still available)

Seriously, you have a good point about spoiling the beauty of the iPhone. So I'm going to ask--do you have a way of protecting your phone or are you just really careful with it? (I ask out of interest as you have a good point, not to be snarky. I'm tired of cases, but I'm concerned about breaking my iPhone.)

I don't like cases either, but when I got an iPhone 6 I figured I would need a case. So I got a clear case, with rubber bumpers that absorb 3ft drops or something like that. I still get to see the phone design and it's protected.

Wow, why is data so expensive in you countries? I feel sorry for you... I pay only 12$ for 20gb of data per month. Are you guys rich or something?
What!?!? I think when we initially signed our 2 year contract with Verizon we got 1 GB of 4G LTE data a month for $40 (after you broke down the $85 a month bill). Since we paid our bill on time, continuously, we got a free upgrade to 2GB a month.
