I traded my first I4 for a new one due to the fact that it was crashing all the time, even after several software restorations and new device set up. However, the battery life on that unit was amazing, when it didn't crash. I could use it for nearly two days of moderate to heavy use before recharging.

The replacement unit I received did the same until I updated to 4.0.1... Now I am getting similar results. I don't think it's altogether bad. I just think I had better, and I don't know why it's worse now... To me, it barely does better than the 3gs. I haven't restored the software on this one since the update, and when I did that I restored from back up. I guess I will restore and set up as a new device. Maybe that will help. If I experience similar battery drain, I think I will make an apple appointment and see what they say.

Make sure you don't have all your apps running in the background for multi tasking, double tap the home button and then if there are a ton of apps in your multitasking, close them out. That drains battery pretty bad if all your apps you ever opened are always running.

This is a common misunderstanding of how multitasking works on the iPhone.

I'm getting exceptional battery life on my replacement iPhone (which i returned for such horrid battery life)

5fingers,
Considering turning off things such as Wi-Fi, 3G Data, Location Services, and Bluetooth off while you are not using them. All of these things require battery usage and will wear down your battery life substantialy.

That's freakin amazing. What's your email and brightness settings like?

1 gmail account on fetch every 30 minutes, 50-60% brightness (no auto correction),

location services on, bluetooth off, wifi on, notifications off

i will sell a kidney to that iPhone of yours. lol. just on a curious note, it seems that you have your wifi on. are you in a wifi radius often? maybe your phone is using wifi more than 3g hence the amazing battery life? :S

Battery life

That's pretty darn impressive, zerix. Did you listen to a lot of music on that charge? The iPod app still adds usage time even while the screen's off. If not, then how about a trade? hehe.

On my iP4, without listening to music, I've only been able to get about 5:30 of usage time with push e-mail, wi-fi on, and pretty much always in the range of wi-fi. If I switch to fetch every 30 minutes I can get an extra hour or so.

I was really hoping for a bigger battery life boost since I switched from my 2 year old iPhone 2G, but that hasn't been the case. What is everyone else experiencing?

I think some games I play are letting the GPS run in the background so I disabled that. I'll have to wait and see if it makes a difference.

hmm. i'm pretty sure that 5 and 1/2 hours of usage is more likely for 3g. wi-fi usage should be closer to what that brilliant guy's iPhone usage is like :S

Yeah, I'm worried my battery might not be up to snuff. I forgot to mention that in my post .

I've been searching around forums trying to establish what's normal for battery life on the iPhone 4. Hopefully part of the problem was location services staying on all of the time while I was playing games (if that is indeed the case).

I get around 1-2hr of usage, and about 4 hr standby before it drops to 20%.... I think mine has a bad battery :(

That's definitely not normal. Have you done a restore yet? If so you can also do a restore and set up as a new phone as a last ditch effort.

Not yet, just got back from a vacation. Was going to restore tomorrow.
it has been Set up as a new phone when I got it though (on the 30th).

Yeah, it seems unlikely if you've had it set up as a new phone all along. You never know though :). When I first got my phone and restored it from my old backup it was running something in the background that was sapping battery power. Oddly enough, restoring it from that same backup fixed the problem.

I think Your battery is working good .so don't worrying about your battery. iphone provides facility like facebook, twitter, ebuddy , 3g browsing , talking , emails.your battery's life:) is depends upon about your usage of iphone in a day.

Here's one of my better usages, most are around this number unless I use it a ton more. Battery's amazing!

That's pretty nice, Dizle. What settings are you using? (Push e-mail, notifications, location services, etc.) Are you mostly using data through wi-fi?

Push on
Email checks every hour
2/3 use was probably on wifi
other third 3g
3g on whole time
wifi on
location off
brightness about 1/3
no music just using apps, web, txts, email etc.

Just jailbroke and hoping the battery doesn't drain much faster. So far so good!

I have to charge mine twice a day, averaging 30 minutes of talk time, receiving about 100 emails, sending 5, and some internet usage via 3G/EDGE/WIFi.

As an example, today I had a one hour phone call when no 3G or EDGE was available, and it drained about 30% of the battery.

This is significantly worse than the 3GS. I have no choice but return this iPhone 4 in the next few days. Should I bother asking for a replacement to see if its battery life is better?

It sounds like it's draining faster than it should. From what I've read the battery in the 4 should be at least as good as the 3GS. If you haven't tried a restore, I would try that first. If that doesn't work, make an appointment at the Apple Store to get a replacement.

What do you mean by an hour call with no 3G or Edge?
