Hey
Why does Netflix not release new features for Apple TV?
1. The UI is old and not the same as on Android TV & Samsung App
2. No double thumbs up
3. No option to remove from the continue watching list.
4. No landscape tiles to portrait
5. No top10

it seems like Netflix abandoned the app for TVOS

no they are not abandoning apple tv

they updated the netflix app and added the tvos 15.5 new player

they are just not adding new features to it

honestly its scary because yesterday facebook shut down their app on apple tv , and I'm worried if Netflix will do the same

I don't think Netflix will abandon the Apple TV app anytime soon, but given that it likely has one of the lowest install base, I imagine that the app would receive the least attention relative to the other platforms.

You are comparing Netflix to a Facebook app that had hardly any user base. Netflix isn't going to abandon an app on a popular platform. Netflix uses a custom UI on tvOS whereas many of the other platforms Netflix is able to share a lot of the codebase. So it is easier to roll out features on those platforms.

so you recon netflix will bring these features slowly later ?

apple tv 4k got the most outdated netflix app at the moment compare to any other platform

Maybe I’m on my own here but as long as the app plays what I want to watch with the quality options my chosen tier supplies then I don’t think I need any extra features.
I’ve probably got all these features via the app on my TV but I never use it as prefer to use the ATV.

I'm running long-out-of-date versions of Netflix on these just fine:

1. Wii U (2012) whatever came on it.

2. Samsung 3D Blu-Ray Player (2013) pre-loaded version

3. Apple TV 2nd Generation (2010) pre-loaded version

4. RCA Streaming box (2010? found in garbage)

5. Various smart TVs of all vintages (oldest from 2016, an LCD WebOS TV)

6. Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet (2012) side-loaded older version for Android 4.x. Works fine

The UI of the older devices/apps is preferable since there's no auto play crap or weird UI messes, and the 'your list' is easier to locate. I'm convinced that Netflix never gets EOL'd on anything. It's literally the last working app on many outdated smart devices.

I remember not too long ago my LG Smart TV and other smart TVs were supposedly EOL for Hulu because I got emails from Hulu about them, and not sure if those were scams or not, as the Hulu app continues to work on those as well, but has the older (better) UI. It's kinda broken on certain elements and you have to use search to find shows that refuse to display on it, but it still works.

Just because an app is 'unsupported' does not mean it won't still connect and play content. I use tons of very old apps to keep the UI I am more fond of alive. They probably use the same servers so killing the server would end all apps not just old ones.

Financially it doesn't make sense for them to discontinue the ATV app. The AppleTV has hardware support for their codec so there is no funny business on their or in their app programming. Plus the device base (SKU's) they need to account for is small (AppleTV and AppleTV 4k). On top of that Apple supports devices for long time. Its safe for them because Apple devices aren't the easiest to hack, AirPlay can be blocked . They don't need to worry about Apples approach to tracking as much because their business doesnt revolve around ad revenue. And a very large portion of their clientele uses an AppleTV (for example I would probably drop Netflix if they dropped the AppleTV because that's the only thing I watch it on).

IDK, Netflix almost doesn't work on my apple tv. And it has fewer features and functions than my laptop. I don't like that. I hope you are right and it will be updated soon. However, I have started to notice that it is missing some recently released movies. That's the worst thing for me, because I like to discuss them as early as possible and keep an eye out for new details. Otherwise my friends would ruin it for me. I think a lot of users lately are looking for other ways to watch movies that Netflix

Updating for Apple TV wouldn’t be my highest priority if I’m Netflix.

Facebook had an AppleTV app? Why? Who would surf facebook from the comfort of their AppleTV Remote?

still using Netflix on an iPad mini 2.

Netflix has always hated Apple, this is not new. After all these years they still have no integration with Apple's unified TV feature. They will always put the minimum effort possible on their Apple apps.

But nevertheless, Netflix pulling out completely from Apple device support would hurt them much more than it would hurt Apple, so that won't be happening, you don't need to worry about it.

Not integrating with Apple TV+ is a business decision not to give Apple Control over their content delivery. Annoying, but I can see why they resist. See no evidence that they are putting in minimum effort as:

Their Apple app has always been top of the line. First streaming app (besides maybe Apple) to stream at ~700 kbps. Most video streaming apps are 1/2 that, even for sites such as Qwest.tv. Has been supporting Atmos for a long time.

Have no problems with their interface, but that's a personal preference.

Netflix needs to get on “up next”!! It’s the only app that doesn’t. they need to be doing more not less.

Netflix needs to change their tiers, all with 4K/hdr & atmos, I only use one stream at a time and do not share my password why should I pay for 4 streams at once to get 4K, when I only stream 1 stream?!?!??

All other apps can be added via iTunes, but, nope, not Netflix.

I haven’t had Netflix for a couple years now, at first didn’t have a job then I was too busy, I come back and they are still holding on to the past. They need to make these changes and fast.

And NO ADs!

Netflix integrates just fine on AndroidTV with up next and seperate channel on the dashboard tho.

They really should loosen up their port hole and allow another entry avenue into their content.

Even though I prefer the ATV interface more, I have switched to the Nvidia shield. The app experience, in particular Netflix, is way superior. I've noticed Plex is a bit more feature rich on AndroidTV.
