Even though I prefer the ATV interface more, I have switched to the Nvidia shield. The app experience, in particular Netflix, is way superior. I've noticed Plex is a bit more feature rich on AndroidTV.

My experience is just the opposite. Shield is great when it works, but:

1. loses audio. Reboot.
2. Plex sometimes plays certain titles at multiple X speed. Reboot.
3. Plex just hangs with spinning circle. Reboot.

Have never experienced (2) or (3) on Apple TV.

and many more problems that I can't remember right now ...

I'm still enjoying a 2010 Apple TV 2 for Netflix and Apple purchases. It's connected to a 2009 Vizio TV. No issues whatsoever.

Other TVs in the home have either a Roku Express+ or a cheap Walmart Android TV dongle on them running the same apps and all updates turned off. Also perfect reliability thus far.

Since the Netflix app is ubiquitous on almost all TVs, streaming boxes and what remains of the Blu Ray/DVD player market it would seem a little juvenile and petty to remove it from the ATV. Although it may not evolve as fast as some platforms, it was adequate on the ATV. It's total lack of integration with the ATV system (no 'Up Next'), ever increasing charges based on streaming quality and poor content (at least for us, our watching dropped to less than one program a week) caused us to drop Netflix last year and we have not missed it. We have ATV +, Hulu, HBO Max, Acorn, Amazon Prime, PBS, Paramount and Disney Plus which all integrate well with the ATV system and which provide high quality entertainment in a variety of streaming standards (but very rarely 720p which is the default Netflix standard).

Due to them not updating the app, can’t even switch to their lowest tier plan with ads. Not supported on the Apple TV.

I don't think it's about app updates, it's specifically that you can't really use full featured DASH to deliver to Apple TV unlike every other device on the market, and branching HLS is also not supported (despite being supported on iPhones and iPads running the same chipset...). So building a manifest including ad insertion is significantly harder on Apple TV compared to any other device, and it's probably just not worth them rearchitecting the entire back end of the service for. The Apple TV does not have that sort of marketshare.

Netflix integrates just fine on AndroidTV with up next and seperate channel on the dashboard tho.

They really should loosen up their port hole and allow another entry avenue into their content.

They support being able to put their own recommendation row in the Android launcher, because they control it. They don't support the up next feature on Google TV for the same reasons they don't support it on Apple TV.

I have to agree with this. I signed up for the Netflix premium tier with 4K/HDR to watch The Sandman and I was not impressed with the picture quality. The show was good, but I wasted the money on the supposedly "better" picture. Same with YouTube TV's 4k. It is not even close to being worth the extra $20 a month.

Yep. Apple would probably lose more than that. I wouldn’t use an atv at that point.
I purchased a Fire TV 4k max stick few weeks ago, on sale for $34. I’m using my new expensive atv’s less and less.

I have the complete opposite experience. I am also on the 4K plan and Netflix consistently shows excellent 4K HDR Dolby Vision shows and movies. Some recent examples that look awesome: Shadow & Bone, S1; We Have A Ghost, Both Enola holmes movies, Warrior Nun S1&2; Kaleidoscope; Sea Beast, and Wednesday. Sandman also looked great. I could keep going on. I have the 2021 Apple TV 4k gong through a Denon AVR into a Sony OLED Bravia TV. I run one TV via ethernet and one via WiFi. Both look great. So, I hate to ask, but are you sure have all your settings configured the correct way?

Heh. That is a valid question. I'm pretty sure I do have everything set correctly. And other 4K HDR sources actually look great. It was just the Sandman didn't "pop" like I expected it to.
