Yes, but at this point you're buying a 5 year old computer. While I don't disagree with you in the details of how the 2015 model is better design wise, in actual usage its hard to recommend such an older computer.

The external monitor issue is definitely one hell of a issue.. I'm yet to understand if it's on AMD driver issues or Apple itself.

I started using in clamshell mode to avoid this issue. However since I'm always at home and not coming back to the office till next year it isn't a big issue anymore for me (thankfully)

It's definitely something drawing out 20W despite resolution/refresh rate
