I have never been a fan of extended warranties either, however my Macbook Pro, iPhone, and LED TV have all needed repairs that would have covered the cost of the warranty. Needless to say, I am sold on future warranties.

Given it's hardware is covered for three years AppleCare by doing it this way, what's the advantage of paying the £48 for the telephone support?

I work in a town in the uk where there is an apple store. Presumably if it develops a fault in these three years I phone the store and take it in there?

I think I'm happy to spend the £48 elsewhere but wanted to check what else it might give me.

This is my first mac but I'd like to think a combination of some brainpower, internet and the great people on forums such as this, I'll get by!
