Agreed. Even my S4 didn’t really lag too much. The only Samsung phone I’ve had that had major lag was the original galaxy note.

Is Samsung's UI still choppy/slow?

For my Galaxy life, I had the s3,s4,s6,s7, Note 8, Note 9. I always tested fluidity with a new phone by testing how choppy the scrolling is in google maps, compared to the smoothness of google maps on the Iphone. Unlike the Iphones google maps 60fps scrolling ,you could pretty much know that if the maps scrolls under 60fps , then most other swiping and scrolling is going to be just as bad.
The s3, and s4 = fluidity lag. Didn't try the s5. The S6 edge was a breath of fresh air, and was very close to fluidity of my Iphone 6. But still had that lag. The s7 edge, was a step backwards, and side by side in maps, the s6 edge had better fluidity. Returned the s7 edge, for a replacement, but in testing maps and other scrolling in the UI, the replacement wasn't any better. The s6 was just better in fluidity. Disappointed, I returned the s7 for a refund, and held on to the s6 until the Note 8.
The Note 8 was the first android phone for me, that I can say, for the first time matched the Iphone in smoothness. After having three replacements of my Note 8 because of a black dot flaw manufacter defect, I was giving a Note 9 as a replacement. The Note 9s fluidity matches my Iphone and my ipad, and besides the nicer animations of the latter, I can't tell the difference. Samsung has caught up in this regard, and the disadvantage it once had is no more. Now if they can just make the animations as beautiful.

It's also quite possible that Samsung is still bad at software.
If they are, basing it on the criteria you seem to be holding up, i.e. a few anecdotes on a forum, then so is Apple. I have horror stories of my own regarding iOS. And on stock Android. I don't consider these issues to indicate Apple or Google is bad at software. I just think s*** happens.
My s8+ and my husband's were awful. Such awful lag on them both. But my friend still uses hers. My brother-in-law enjoys his. Anecdotes. What do they prove, really? Get what you like. Sell or return what you don't.
Well, there’s definitely no doubt in that.
Besides, those who are claiming how good the new One UI is, they are using the S10, which is still a brand new phone.
One UI is damn smooth on my S9+ too.

I can't remember who noted how Apple employ routines on say scrolling that whilst speedy they are if you like similar to self closing draws and have a like hydraulic damping feeling that users akin to smoothness where Samsung are not dampened the same and move as fast as you can, this sometimes is wrongly interpreted as lag when in fact it's the opposite and a mistaken perception by some
I had One UI on my s8 plus unlocked and it was smooth as hell.....its not just that the s10 is a new phone...the software is really that good...and it will only get better and more refined with time....Samsung has finally focused in on a smooth and streamlined software experience.....

Not exactly. They've updated older phones to One UI as well. I have it on my S8+ and it's much smoother than the old Samsung Experience UI.
I have an S8 which I was about to upgrade to the S10 when the One UI dropped on it. Big improvement, I'll probably keep it another year now.
The thing you are referring to is known as “ease” in the dev industry.

I noticed some stuttering and dropped frames on my s10+. Mostly notice it when navigating home from an app. One UI is an improvement, however. I also have a fair amount of stutter on my XS max these days.

Another common misinterpretation is app startup delay.
Apple disguises their startup time by instantly displaying a static screen capture. But you can't actually interact with it, and worse, it often contains bits of confusingly old data. Still, to the non-observant, it seems that the app instantly launched.

Lol.. if you mean Samsung is one of the top players in terms of software then, as a software developer myself, I offer your opinion a firm lmao, and thanks for coming out
Google, Motorola and OnePlus seem to be the best versions of android.

funny...i work with software devs and app engineers...some won't use any other Android phone than a Samsung.....guess different devs have different opinions.

I'm really happy to see someone post this - I've just sold my 64gb SE and am using a Windows phone until I can take the plunge and buy the Samsung S10e.
I've used both iPhone (5c, 5s, SE) and Samsung (S1, S3, S6) before. The iPhones didn't develop lag at all (although my SE was slow towards the end of 2.5 years of solid use) but I did find the S3 and S6 laggy - the S1 didnt' develop a lag at all. I didn't own the S3 and S6 long; sold them and bought the 5s and SE to replace them. I've tried the S10e in shops countless times and haven't noticed any lag. From reviews I've watched, it seems like Samsung have slowly started to sort out their software; but we'll see.

Ah the ol "you can't judge something unless you outdo it" just like in music, cooking, movies, art, and now phones. Cute, but not biting 🙂

Not sure what you being a software developer has anything to do with this. Software is one area where samsung weren’t up to speed on but that has changed in recent years where really their software is as good or as close to the comp.
Software used to be apple’s bread and butter but like everything else they have either stood still or in some areas got worse. IOS has become something that has had more issues than it ever used to be before even with their great update speeds. Samsung has always been the king with hardware but their software now isn’t far behind at all. The issues that they had software wise I don’t think is a fair criticism anymore.
Well my S9 is also smooth and it's a year old. So I'm willing to bet the s10 holds up well. People need to move on and realise Samsung has improved thier software to the point that it's one of the best skins available for Android.
