Hey all

Just wonderin if any of u peeps had any input on how portable the 15 inch MBP?

I have a 17 inch MBP so would I notice a lot more portability if I was to purchase a 15 inch? Thanks!

Pacey

I love the 15" over the 17". I have used the 17", carried it around and it is larger and heavier than the 15". The 15" is a great size and fits in a bag nicely, the 17" is quite large, but it is a great machine on a desk!

Yes i totally agree with you. My 17" is an awsome desktop replacement.

Seems like the pro and cons for the 15" is pretty even in regards to the responses.... now makes it even harder to decide!

Also do any of you peeps know if the speakers/quality of sound is the same for the 15" MBP because i really like the sound for the 17".

Personally, I find 15" to be more portable than 17". The weight, and extra inches do add up when I take it around everyday!

I actually do wish I would have sprung extra for the 17 instead of the 15 because I use it as a desktop anyway and I have a 12 pb for great great great portability. Nothing beats the 12" imho.... I feel like I could have the best of both worlds when the new mbp's come out and get a monster powered 17" mbp with leopard and still have the 12" pb with tiger and PPC for certain apps etc.

the best two so far have been the 12" iBook I briefly had and the Macbook I currently use. The iBook was even better than the MB, due to its age and thicker shell, which made me less hesitant about toting it with me

I'd add to this that, for whatever reason, the iBook feels much lighter than the MacBook. My MacBook only feels as light as an iBook G4 I handled when I take the battery out.

I have a 17" and my girlfriend has a 15". We are both airline crew and travel with them overseas every week. I bought mine to replace my desktop and as an ex graphic design student, I really wanted the screen size. For watching DVD's in hotel rooms, and getting louder sound for movies and music, the 17" is well worth the larger size.
The downside is that if you travel economy class, the 17" can be too big, usually bigger than a tray table, giving you little room to be comfortable. Business class of course is no problem! As for lugging them around, they both need to be in a similarly sized bag, but the weight is noticeable in my opinion. For these reasons, I am considering buying the 15" when it is updated. But then again... if the 17" is released with features that tempt me, I may buy the 17". I tend to always want the flagship model!
At the end of the day, what is most important to you - screen size, speakers, and some other cool features, or a smaller, lighter alternative that is still an awesome machine?

can you get a 15 mbp with as much, or more, performance than the 17". I work with a 30" monitor and use the mbp for menus and extra screen space.

most backpacks now have labtop sleeves built into them, however they only fit up to 15"...the only other problem is that in comparison to other brands, apples labtops are SKINNY!

Im waiting for an updated version of an MBP, so naturally I started to research which one I want, 15" or 17", and from what Ive read in this thread, it confused me even more. At home I have a 24" and a 19" hooked up to my desktop, and I really enjoy having all the information available at a glance, thus I tend to lean toward the 17", but if its cumbersome to carry around a few times a week and take it on the plane once in a couple of months I dunno...but I also dont want to have too little of a usable space as well so Im confused. At home Ill hook up my 24" to it so it wont be a problem, but when I travel I also want to have a full experience (more or less). Dont know if all that make much sense, but regardless would love to hear more opinions on the subject matter.

Almost forgot to mention that Im currently using win and am looking to switch to mac and decided that the best way to do that would be by buying a mbpro, so I wanted it to be the proper sort of speak experience...Also I have a 3-4 years old HP 15" laptop, its' screen does look unappealingly small for me but it has a weak resolution compared to the current 15"mbpros and hopefully if they improve the screen res even more to the updated version ... so thats my dilemma.
