!!!!!!!!!!!WARNING TO ALL MEN!!!!!!!!!!

Don't use a laptop on your lap especially ones that get really hot like a MBP. It can do extensive damage to any future children you wish to create.

And I'm not kidding around either!

Well, I've got mine on my lap at the moment, and the only warm part is way, way down lower than that particular sensitive area, closer to my knees. I could see this being a problem if you laid down on your back, had the laptop on your belly with the hot end right there...well, you know where... ;) Now, that wifi radio wave might present an issue... :)

i have a 17" mbp and i love it, no problems at all on my lap, however, one thing to consider is that the hinge for the 17" is not as sturdy as the one for the 15" so if you incline the mbp too much , i.e. if you were laying down and using the laptop, the lid may not be able to hold itself up like the 15".

No it's because the hinge is called the counter-balance hinge; when you are on a flat surface the hinge's torque with counter the weight of the screen, however when you change the angle too much, the counter balance no longer works, so the screen falls down.

@OP: I love the 17" on the lap since it rest perfectly and it doesn't get hot since it has more surface area to cool off.
