Just wait two months for the HTC Gigantic 3D loaded with Android 4.5 aka Snickers Ice Cream Bar. It'll have a 5.4 inch screen with 2100 x 1060 resolution. 10mp back cam with 3x optical zoom and if you place objects on it's extremely tough screen it will weight it for you.

Honestly you can wait for the next version until one day it reads on your tombstone.
"Here lies ( insert name here ) Buried with his brick phone because he knew something better was coming out next year"

If you like the specs go buy it! Waiting for the next best phone is like waiting for tomorrow. It never comes. The same day the iPhone 5 gets released you will find
50 sites churning up the rumor mill talking about the iPhone 6 and why you should wait for it.
The only people that might not gain a lot from an upgrade are iPhone 4 users.
If you can afford it than do it. I know so many people who have no problem dropping 200 bucks on a meal but can't justify 200 for a new phone. Crazy!

Cheers

I've thought about this, as well.

Steve is a perfect example of how fragile and temporary life is. No sense in putting things off to a tomorrow that may or may not come (I'm thinking in a broader sense, not just about a phone).

Why have you been holding out? Also consider that there will always be a newer device on the way. Polling isn't the way to answer your questions. Looking at your needs/wants/budget/criteria and using that information to determine what fits you best is the way to go.

Good point.

I guess I've been holding out for a single device that can be my phone, music player, camera/camcorder, navigation system, portable game player, on-the-go web browser, movie player, calendar, etc. Honestly, I've long felt that Apple accomplished this with the 4 but with the 4S coming out with a better camera and such, I began wondering about what other improvements could come in future generations to make this single super device even more realistic as a replacement for multiple devices.

My main concern has been that I'd be locked into a 2 year contract and wouldn't be able to sell the phone to cover an early termination fee but that concern is no longer applicable now that I've found out that I have a number of family members who would let me use their upgrade (so long as I give them the 4S).

It's going to be a 2 year contract no matter when you buy it. If you waited til next year then you'd have to wonder if the phone after that would be better (in which case if you bought this phone that phone after next year's would be available to you for an upgrade, even without family members having upgrades).

The point is don't just not buy it cause you are wondering if a phone a *year* away is going to be better... you'll just keep waiting and waiting then cause the next year's phone will always be better ;). Now if it was just a month or so I could understand (especially since then the current iphone would be at least almost a year old design). Or if the current phone doesn't actually do what you want.

I've personally never had a problem with Android being "buggy" so I can't help but think that it is a myth. It is extremely smooth, and quick from my experience.

ICS is going to make the GSII considerably faster. There are videos on youtube comparing real world performances of both and the GSII seems quicker at loading web pages than the iPhone 4S, keeping in mind that the GSII has to load flash too.

Like I said, each phone has it's pros and cons. It depends on what is more important to the user.

yeah well your gonna get ICS months after its launched, thats the problem with android, terrible release timing of updates to phones

It won't matter what phone you buy there will always be something better down the line. You could wait every year and ask the same question and always wait for the latest and greatest. Either way you will be stuck with a phone for 2 years and at some point it will be outdated.

It depends. If you have an iPhone 4, NOO. If not, then yes.

I disagree. I upgraded to a 4s from a 4, and the difference is very noticable. Speed, cell signal (and I did not have the antenna gate issue) and features.

Yes, I like Siri, but I travel for work and the ability to natively text and email by voice is a lifesaver.

Oh, and like my sig says, I'm a tech. nut so there IS some of the "I want the new one" in there ;-)
